Politico: Oops! Experts (and Us) Wrong on Higher Gas Prices

Ooops! What we predicted about higher gas prices a couple of months ago... Never mind!

On April 28, Politico White House reporter Scott Waldman along with his sidekick, Eli Stokols, were confidently citing experts who predicted a big surge in gasoline prices due to the Iran war as you can see in "‘There’s a day of reckoning coming’: Energy experts expect another spike at the pump."

The price effect was softened by the impact of Venezuela crude coming into the US at high rates/

Am still confident that prices will rise some as inventories are restocked after being almost depleted.

Meanwhile, the price of Brent insists on staying under $70 per bbl.  Son of a bitch.

They whine when it goes up, they snivel when it goes down. Just no pleasing some folks. No matter to me, I'm out of the drilling end of things now.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Not quite. Just changed jobs.

Thank you! I'm working at it. It's a new part of the oilfield for me, and there's plenty to learn about what happened after we moved the drilling rigs off. I can't tell you how much I am enjoying that!

Your experience remains in big demand.

My last 20 years working with geologists showed me most believed that they didn't need to visit a rig to be successful.

Those youngun's will need your experience for certain to understand what they don't know.

Thanks. I run into old hands and we talk of days working worm's corner on kelly rigs, watching out when the chain hand threw chain so we didn't get wrapped up in it and are continuously amazed at how much has changed, and how much hasn't.

You likely work on triples with a better class of people than I do.  We tend to use singles and doubles, with rig hands right out of prison or treatment and some that are probably still using.  When I started back in 1985 we didn't have much drug use, but plenty of alcohol.  I could follow the beer cans to town on some rigs.  Now it's amazing the meth use.  Years ago I was visiting with a rig hand about his former cocaine use and his comment has always stuck with me.  He said he thought about cocaine every minute of every day.

Again...congratulations on the new job and I have no doubt you'll do a tremendous job.
