St Louis police arrested a 10-year-old for shooting and killing a 7-month-old baby.
The 19-year-old father of the baby Ca’Marion Pawnell (pictured) was also arrested on 2nd degree m*rder charges.
The 10-year-old allegedly took Pawnell’s gun from under a mattress where he knew it was hidden.
This is the youngest person to be charged with m*rder in Missouri history per firstalert4.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) -The father of 7-month-old Kiyomi Parker, who was shot and killed Friday afternoon, has been charged with second-degree murder.

Court documents state Ca’Marion Pawnell, 19, is being charged with one count of second-degree, felony murder, one count of endangering the welfare of a child resulting in death and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child creating substantial risk. ...

Police say responding officers did a “scoop and go” on the baby, grabbing her from the shooting scene and placing her in the back seat of a police car to rush her to an area hospital. An officer in the backseat with the child continued life-saving measures while other officers blocked traffic in an attempt to get her to the hospital faster.

Police say the baby girl was pronounced dead at an area hospital.  ... KMOV

My response:
===========
"This Constitution recognizes capital punishment to be an appropriate penalty pursuant to the due process of law.

As such, no Court of the United States, nor of the Several States, may declare the death penalty invalid under this Constitution, nor shall any of the Several States enact laws that do the same.

Any capital offense will be brought to trial within six months of the arrest. No exculpatory evidence shall be admitted as a defense after that date.

No appeals shall be initiated on a capital conviction later than twelve months from the date of initial conviction. After the twelve month period has expired, execution will be carried out within thirty days.

No person in the United States, nor in the several States, shall face capital punishment unless above the age of eight years and six months."

The circuit court for the city of St. Louis has issued a statement about the charges against the child:
Quote
The full statement Currier released on Monday reads:

“The 22nd Judicial Circuit’s Juvenile Division has charged a 10-year-old male with first-degree murder in the June 26, 2026, shooting death of the juvenile’s 7-month-old niece. The 10-year-old was also ordered to be placed in the protective custody of Missouri Children’s Division and is currently at a hospital where he is being psychiatrically evaluated.

As he is under 12 years old, the juvenile will not be subject to certification proceedings and therefore cannot be certified to be tried as an adult. The Missouri State Legislature enacted section 211.071 RSMo, which states that juveniles 12 years of age and older can only be certified as adults for specific serious or dangerous felonies, while juveniles under the age of 12 cannot be prosecuted as adults for any reason. Therefore, the murder allegations pending in the juvenile’s case must be proceeded on exclusively within the Juvenile Court.

The St. Louis Family Court-Juvenile Division’s mission is to administer justice with compassion, dignity and respect while promoting child protection, safe communities and youth competency while holding youths accountable, repairing harm to victims and strengthening families."

I can't tell by the article...was this an "OMG the gun went off" or deliberate shooting?

(no, he should not have been able to access the weapon).

I thought perhaps it was just "Oops, I pulled the trigger," but they have charged the 10 y/o with 1st degree murder, meaning premeditated.  We'll see if lesser charges are filed.

What compassion did the 7 month old receive from the 10 year old?
