Mamdani-backed socialists look to take New York playbook nationwide after primary victories
DSA-backed Melat Kiros challenges 30-year incumbent Diana DeGette in Denver's solidly blue district on Tuesday

Hours after their ballot box victories in a handful of congressional primaries in New York City, the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) set their sights west.

"Today, the East Coast, next week the Mountain West," the DSA wrote in a social media post last week.

The post came after DSA-aligned Darializa Avila Chevalier, a 32-year-old far-left community organizer, ousted incumbent Democratic Rep. Adriano Espaillat, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus chair, and state Assembly Member Claire Valdez, another socialist, won a congressional primary by beating an establishment-backed candidate.

The victories by Chevalier and Valdez, who were heavily supported by socialist New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, further emboldened the far left as it takes on the center-left establishment in a high-stakes battle for the future of the Democratic Party.

The DSA is now looking to replicate its playbook across the country, starting Tuesday in the Democratic primary in Colorado's 1st Congressional District, a solidly blue seat anchored in Denver that then-Vice President Kamala Harris carried by a whopping 56 points in the 2024 election.

Democratic Rep. Diana DeGette, who was first elected to Congress three decades ago, is facing two primary challenges, including DSA-backed Melat Kiros, a first-time candidate and former attorney born four months after DeGette first took office.

Kiros, who lost her job as a lawyer in New York after writing an essay critical of Israel, is also supported by Justice Democrats, the nearly decade-old political group known for heavily supporting "Squad" members Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, and Rashida Tlaib as they toppled entrenched incumbents in their initial elections to Congress.

Limousine Liberals couldn't care less about urban-dwelling commie C.H.U.D.'s ... until they infiltrate the Hamptons, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket and poop in their gilded, champagne-filled swimming pools.

  • Ah, the air is so much fresher here...
Remember when AOC and The Squad were going to do this? How did that work out?

They're going to try to win a bunch of urban seats and replace Rats with Rats. Problem is they'll still be an extreme minority within the party even if they have success.

Do they think their swill will fly in swing districts and more conservative blue districts? Curious as to their plan of expanding their influence beyond the inner cities, being that their current victories were on thin turnout and using their brainwashed white bougie sheep to game the system for victory?

The Republic is lost.

Socialist PETA extremist wins nomination in Colorado.

Izengabe
@Izengabe_
The naked guy in barrel protesting people eating meat is the lunatic Democrats nominated to run for Congress in CO-08. Former PETA activist Manny Rutinel (D) thinks eating hamburgers is horrific & that “animal agriculture is one of the biggest sources of suffering on the planet”.
Democrats basically nominated a PETA activist to go to Congress to wage war against ranchers & anyone who eats animal products. Manny Rutinel is one of the nuttier Democrat candidates this year & he's running against Rep. Gabe Evans (R) in PVI-Even #CO08.

Story: Denver Gazette:
Quote
Candidate’s disturbing anti-animal agriculture history
By Rachel Gabel June 15, 2026

Rep. Manny Rutinel has busted out a cowboy hat for campaign photos and has thrown it into the ring to represent Colorado’s 8th Congressional District in D.C. He is endorsed by U.S. Sen. Cory Booker, a New Jersey democrat who serves on the Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, where he works to “rein in the abuses of factory farms.”

Booker became the first vegan senator to serve on the committee in 2021, though his “vegan identity” has varied over the years. His lunch order is no business of mine, but he has been a champion of animal-rights-type causes and legislation, and it would appear that Rutinel perhaps hopes to follow his lead. This, of course, is a race to represent an electorate still flinching after nearly 8 years of Gov. Jared Polis’ anti-oil and gas and anti-ag agenda, and First Gentleman Marlon Reis’ undue influence on anti-animal ag causes.  ...

The problem, though, is Rutinel’s anti-animal agriculture history.

In an interview with Kyle Clark, who I like more all the time, Clark asked Rutinel about the time in 2021 he told the Yale Big Ag and Antitrust Conference attendees that “animal agriculture is one of the biggest sources of suffering on the planet” and went on to call it “a horrific, exploitative industry.” In response, Rutinel called farmers and ranchers his friends and offered a rather Victor Marx-like non-answer that gives voters in CD-8, who contribute substantially to the state’s economy, no confidence.  ...

More insanity from Colorado:

This Ethiopian-born socialist who makes excuses for 9/11 just beat an incumbent Democrat Rep. of 30 years in Colorado.
