Trump names new ICE director

President Trump announced his nomination of Lance Schroyer as the next director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Saturday.
The president commended Schroyer’s experience as a former Oklahoma state trooper and U.S. Marine in a Truth Social post, calling him a “PATRIOT with real operational experience.”
“Lance has firsthand experience getting Illegal Aliens OFF our streets and, just like ME and our Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin, he LOVES the men and women of ICE,” Trump wrote.
Trump called on the Senate to confirm Schroyer “IMMEDIATELY” in his Saturday post.
“Do not delay,” he wrote. ‘Together, we will MAKE AMERICA SAFE AGAIN.”
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Markwayne Mullin was charged with filling this role after former acting ICE Director Todd Lyons stepped down from his position in April. The Senate has not confirmed a director for this agency since 2017. David Venturella has been serving as the agency’s acting director since Lyons’s departure.
Schroyer is sure to face questions about the Trump administration’s large-scale immigration crackdown efforts, which were met with nationwide protests and calls for reforms at ICE. Tensions soared after federal immigration agents shot and killed two people in Minneapolis.
DHS shut down for a record-long 76 days earlier this year after Democrats refused to approve a funding package until the department met their demands for immigration enforcement practice reforms.
Mullin commended Schroyer’s nomination in a social media post following Trump’s announcement on Saturday.
“President Trump made a great pick, and I’m confident Lance’s strong leadership and firsthand experience will empower the men and women of ICE to deport criminal illegal aliens, secure the homeland, and protect the American people,” the secretary wrote.
“It has been 11 years since @DHSgov has had a Senate confirmed @ICEgov Director,” he continued. “The Senate must quickly confirm Lance Schroyer.”
