Fact Check: Yes, Some American Students Can Carry Knives to School if They Are Sikhs

In places where you aren’t allowed to carry knives, when can you carry knives? When you’re a Sikh, apparently.

For those of you who haven’t been paying attention to developments across the pond, the ritual Sikh knife, the kirpan, played a role in the murder of Henry Nowak at the hands of the religious minority.

The case has come under scrutiny for a number of reasons, particularly since police initially discounted Nowak’s injury and believed the story of his killer, Vickrum Digwa, who falsely claimed to have been the target of a racist attack by the decedent.

I carried a big folding jackknife every day of my life, including right now. An Uncle Henry (I am very partial to Uncle Henry) Pappa Bear, these days, like most days. Right now I carry that jackknife, a multitool, and a little rancher-style 3 blade sliver-gitter penknife all the time.

Just cuz a feller has a knife don't make him bad... It's the murder that makes him bad.

I think the point is they get special privileges others are not afforded.

I also feel naked without a knife, but the older I get them more another tool has come in play.

Yep, a flashlight.

I carry a pocket knife that I got from the NRA in my purse.  It comes in handy to open things, that's about it. Not something that I would consider as a self-defense item.
Live in  harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.

Yep. Got one of them too - But I have to confess, I use my phone for that anymore... Flashlight with magnifier means I can see that small print on stuff. And the phone does all that.  happy77

It's always about defense, I guess, but it's really not about defense. It is an artifact from a life where I used them all every day... Cutting twine on hay bales, gutting fish, skinning martens and beaver and deer and elk, cutting off gas line and zip-tie tails... There's a thousand reasons to carry a knife if you're handy.

I don't know how any man lives without em.

I carry a small Gerber I bought on our Honeymoon.  I like that the blades lock, and it has a small scissors.
I don’t owe tolerance to people who disagree with my existence.
I will NOT comply.

I still have all my hunting knives - The same ones I have used all my life... I have only had 2 axes in all that time (that I liked enough to keep anyway), one of which I lost up in Meadow Creek canyon...

But that big folding knife is the one I beat to death in order to preserve the rest - Always an Uncle Henry Pappa Bear or Old Timer Cave Bear (pretty much the same thing except style), I can't even tell you how many f them I have had - Somewhere between 10 and 20 I suppose - I lose em more than anything, but I have clean wore out a few.
