Trump calls US response to Iran 'very powerful'

President Donald Trump on Tuesday defended U.S. strikes against Iran, saying they were a direct response to the downing of the U.S. Army Apache helicopter.

Speaking with ABC News' Jonathan Karl as U.S. Central Command announced retaliatory strikes against Iran, Trump said, "I think it's very important to respond. They shot down a helicopter, and we are responding as we speak."

Trump said the strikes were a direct response to Iran's actions.

"This is a response to what they did they did with our helicopter last night, and I believe the response should be very strong, very powerful, and that's what this one is," Trump added.

US hit 20 targets inside Iran, senior official says

A senior U.S. official told Fox News that 20 targets inside Iran were hit Tuesday night.

While CENTCOM said the U.S. strikes have ended, the situation remains “active,” and the U.S. military is prepared to respond if Iran retaliates, the official said.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said late Tuesday that American forces have completed strikes against Iranian targets ordered in response to the downing of a U.S. Army Apache helicopter.

According to CENTCOM, U.S. Air Force and Navy fighter jets struck Iranian air defense systems, ground control stations and surveillance radar sites near the Strait of Hormuz using precision-guided munitions.

"The operation was a proportional response to recent attacks on U.S. forces and international commercial ships transiting regional waters," CENTCOM wrote on X. "U.S. forces remain vigilant and postured to defend against unjustified Iranian aggression."

Oil prices rose about 1% Wednesday, recovering from a seven-week low.

The gains came after fresh U.S. strikes on Iran and new data showed another sharp drop in U.S. crude inventories, according to Reuters.

Brent futures gained 83 cents, or 0.9%, to $92.29 a barrel. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude rose 68 cents, or 0.8%, to $88.97, Reuters reported.

President Donald Trump lashed out at Iranian leadership on social media on Tuesday, saying they were "all talk."

"Iran’s Military is a complete and total mess. Much of it, like their Navy and Air Force, doesn’t even exist anymore - They have been completely defeated," Trump wrote.

"Iran is all talk and no action. The Bully of the Middle East is DEAD!!! They’ve taken too long to negotiate a deal that would have been great for them, now they will have to pay the price!" he added.

His statement came as Fox News foreign correspondent Trey Yingst reported that Qatari negotiators traveled to Tehran on Tuesday morning to meet with the Iranians in an effort to bridge the remaining gaps in the negotiation process, according to a diplomat with knowledge of the situation.

President Donald Trump suggested he may order the U.S. military to begin targeting Iranian power plants and bridges on Wednesday.

Trump made the statement in an interview with Fox News' Trey Yingst, saying Iranian leadership has been dragging their feet on peace negotiations.

"I may keep going," Trump said. "They had a chance to sign a deal and survive."

He added that Tehran has been "tapping the U.S. along" in peace talks that have ultimately made little progress.

President Donald Trump offered new details about the shoot-down of a U.S. Apache helicopter by Iran on Wednesday.

Trump told Fox News' Trey Yingst in an interview that the Iranian drone that hit the helicopter got "lodged between the two pilots." He said the drone was on fire but did not explode as the pilots brought the helicopter down into the water.

Trump said the survival of the two pilots was a "miracle."

The president went on to say that he is considering wider military action against Iran as peace talks have failed to make progress, saying he is getting closer to targeting Iran's power plants and bridges.

"I may keep going," Trump said. "They had a chance to sign a deal and survive."

Speaking to Fox News Wednesday, the president said a drone laden with explosives had “lodged between” the pilots inside the helicopter as it was flying low over enemy territory — fully engulfed in flames, but failing to explode as intended.

“At any moment it could have exploded,” Trey Yingst told the network after speaking with Trump, who called the harrowing incident “a miracle.”

“And so we’re trying to take down the helicopter with the drone lodged into this gunship without it exploding. There was a lot of heat inside the cockpit of this helicopter, and ultimately these two pilots were able to take it down into the sea,” he said, quoting the president.

After the pilots brought down the $40 million craft, they were rescued by an unmanned sea drone — a first in US military history.

The org chart remains only the names have changed. The "decision makers" are just names. New names occupy the same squares and function the same. There is no point on fixating on one name or another. It is not a Western democracy where name changes are very important.

None. And neither do we.

The one thing we should have learned from Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan is that you absolutely must go in and physically take and hold the real estate. If the cost to do that exceeds the advantages, then we have to stay out.

As it is, we are depleting our military resources while China sits idly by, keeping their powder dry.

Trump should never have entered into this fight. But if he did, the plan should have included, at the very least, securing the Strait of Hormuz, and taking out Kharg Island. I still don't understand why we don't take Kharg Island militarily and hold it. Do we not have the military capability to do that? If not, then we obviously had no business initiating a bombing campaign.

Israel could have been running this whole show... after all, they will certainly be the ones to face Iran's wrath. I'm not against Israel, I just think this whole thing is a clusterfuck. Trump could've and should have just supported Israel by proxy.
