Did anyone think their efforts to 'tax the rich' and 'help the poor' were bringing in funds from their base of no-loads, granny's basement dwellers, and protesters (supposedly unpaid)?
People who don't work need stuff.
Claim to provide stuff.
Get them stuff and (buy) their votes.
Make everyone else pay for it.
Make the programs generous enough to leave ample funds to skim and divert to pay for campaigns, lavish living, armored SUVs, mansions, trips and dachas...
