Democrat Iowa attorney general candidate Nate Willems is facing renewed scrutiny after social media posts surfaced showing him amplifying content that compared Antifa activists to heroic American troops who fought in World War II.
Willems, a former Iowa state representative and labor attorney, is running to unseat Attorney General Brenna Bird, who is seeking a second term.
While Willems has pledged to work alongside prosecutors and law enforcement to combat violent crime, critics are raising questions about social media activity that appears to praise Antifa, a group President Donald Trump designated as a domestic terrorist organization in 2025.

Screenshots from Willems’ X account show him reposting content that likened Antifa activists to American servicemen who fought Nazi Germany during World War II.
One repost featured an image of U.S. Army paratroopers and stated: “A plane full of uniformed antifa, circa 1944,” referencing Allied forces involved in the D-Day invasion.
