Wish I knew css.... Back in frames you'd just autostretch the frame, and everything in it would adapt to whatever the width is... Dunno how to do that with css.

With the stretch all that I saw on my screen after the banner was a block of red.  I much prefer this.

All in all lots of work and IMHO I think it looks great!

A banner is supposed to stretch across the whole page - That's what a banner does. It looks bad cut short. It would look better if the color used to accomplish the stretch was the same as the left-most part of the pic - But that's a kludge anyway... the pic itself is supposed to stretch all the way across... leftward pics left-aligned, Rightward pics right-aligned, text center-aligned, ad the whole works in an auto-frame to handle expansion...

* Consider: something like "informed", "unafraid",  or "honest" instead of "conservative" political discussion? (conservative really is toxic among the yutes)

* Consider: adding a reference to our 250th birthday, like "250 Years" somewhere?  The graphics seem custom made for this year's birthday celebration.

Stretching it widthwise distorts the images and makes it look wrong.

If it's increased to make the width bigger,then it will also get taller if the aspect ratio is maintained.

The old banner image didn't stretch all the way across, either.  It was also only 930 px wide; the rest of the image was the background color, which was intentionally chosen to match the righthand edge of the actual image.  That was the simple way to get an image that appeared to expand and contract widthwise without causing height distortions.

If one wants an image that appears to go across the entire top width of the page, then the most straightfforward way is to give each new banner image a strong color boundary on the right hand side, and then make the background color for that html element the same as that edge color.

I am merely practicing being codgerly. Like I said, I know it's old skool. In frames that would not be one pic, it would be three or four. all wrapped in a frame or two... And the whole works would preserve aspect if you set the frames to do it. The images would right-align and left-align, with a fade toward the middle. The title bar and comment bar would center align... And the whole works grows and shrinks accordingly...

Now, frames don't work with phones... they are too little, and the frame will overrun the monitor size, or bunch up in an unattractive way, because the aspect preservation never took itty-bitty into account.

I like it, but you actually point to a few things I have about it.

The men are not accurate to period.  They’re clearly not wearing full outer coats or even the short style typical of dragoons, and are in regular khakis.  If they were just in short dragoon it wouldn’t look quite like that either.  They’re just regular modern guys wearing some kind of tricorn or cocked hats.

As far as MUSKET on the wrong side…actually, standard was to shoulder on the left.  Though they’re not necessarily shouldering here, just holding.

Sorry, I’m a huge RevWar fan and I get very picky about what is presented!  And, 1776 was only the declaration date….1775 is when it started with some reference perhaps to Lexington here.  At this point they would have been more an army, and centered on Boston overlooking the city, soon to move to NYC and be joined by some more regulars sent by other states.

Anyway, nice job.  But I still like the last Reagan one (and yes, funny calling out for outdated on Reagan, but not 250yo guys!).
