VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — A woman accused of crashing a truck into a toll booth, killing a toll worker, was taken into custody on Wednesday, according to authorities.
The Volusia Sheriff’s Office said Deanna Harrell, 36, is in custody on warrants for vehicular homicide and DUI manslaughter in the death of Tammie Jo Baker, a woman who worked a beach ramp toll booth.
The crash happened just after 12:30 p.m. on Monday on Dunlawton Avenue in Daytona Beach Shores. Surveillance footage shows the moment the truck collided with the toll booth before driving along the ramp and into the water.
The Volusia Sheriff’s Office released body camera video, which showed Baker receiving medical attention after the crash. Sheriff Mike Chitwood said she was “probably close to being killed on impact.”
Harrell was detained at the beach on Monday, according to video.
