Indian Illegal Truck Driver Charged With Fleeing Fatal Hit-and-Run Collision in Sanctuary California
Federal authorities are urging officials in the sanctuary state of California to not release an illegal alien truck driver facing a slew of charges in connection with a hit-and-run collision that killed two people this week.
The preventable tragedy unfolded just after noon on Tuesday in Lodi.
Manvir Singh, 24, lost control of the 18-wheeler he was driving on Highway 99 and skidded off the roadway, California Highway Patrol says.
The crash triggered a multi-vehicle pileup that killed two innocent motorists who have not yet been identified.
Singh reportedly attempted to flee the scene on foot but was quickly apprehended.
He is being held in San Joaquin County Jail on charges that include vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, reckless driving with specified injuries, fleeing a crime scene, gross bodily injury, resisting arrest, and hit and run resulting in permanent injury or death.
