She paid for it with her life.
LaPere was beaten to death with a brick by Jason Billingsley, a career criminal and registered sex offender. Days before killing her, Billingsley had raped and nearly killed another woman. He should have been locked up, but the system let him out early — partly to avoid the appearance of racism.
