It may not be an easy win.  Keep in mind that thousands and thousands of left wing liberals have moved into the state.
As a reminder, the last Texas statewide race won by a Democrat was 32 years ago in 1994.

:yowsa: I remember that year very well as I was on the ballot as a Republican (first one in the district since reconstruction) and lost to a twelve year incumbent Democrat.

Most of the transplants are conservative exiles from California. There are some liberals in there, for sure, but the majority are disaffected from blue state socialism, and want no part of it.

I have had my second home in Texas for 25 years. Every two years there are MSM articles about the state going blue. Every two years Republicans win handily. Ho-hum.

Get used to saying "Senator Paxton."

The congregation didn't approve of his support for Tech?

Did he get caught tossing a tortilla?

Democrats wouldn't be winning anywhere if Republicans cut off all their 'free shit' money and balanced the budget.

IMHO, Briefers are using a poor example as the basis of Texas is turning 'purple'. Cruz vs beto, 2018 (2.4%?).  If you look at all the other statewide elections that year, the GOP swept.  The reason why Cruz did so poorly is because the butt hurt Trumpers refused to vote for him because he had the audacity to run against their messiah 2 years earlier.
No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.

I am a Texan, Trump's endorsement after voting began had ZERO impact on this race.
We were removing Cornyn and that is all there was to it.

I actually thought it was pretty weak of Trump to wait so long to endorse. I think he wasn't willing to endorse a loser so we waited until it was crystal clear who would win and endorsed Paxton. Early voting was already underway. I had already voted. Cornyn was getting ratioed 10:1 on every post on this platform. If the race had been close, Trump would have stayed on the sidelines.
