African Americans make up 13.7% and 15.2% of the US Population.
"Majority black" districts are a misguided attempt to make amends for slavery. African-Americans were not the only race of people to be enslaved - so were Native Americans. Where are "thier" districts?
Why don't all hyphenated Americans deserve their own majority district?
Why should conservative Irish Catholic Americans have their influence diluted by having to share Congressional districts with liberal reformed Jews?
Why don't Hatian-Americans deserve dedicated districts? Puerto-Rican Americans? Dominican-Americans? Mexican-Americans? Greek-Americans? Why do Dems believe that one group of constituents deserves more equality than the rest?
Whether you are a Greek, Italian, Portuguese, Cape Verdean, Anglo, Irish, Vietnamese, Africa-American fisherman, each has a common vested interest in NOAA fishing and US Coast Guard legislation. Districts should be drawn based upon the greatest common constituents interests rather than least common racial, ethnic, or religious denominator.
