Hantavirus Horror: Is a New Deadly Pandemic About to Explode?

The following content is sponsored by The Wellness Company.

Just six years after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, nonstop global media coverage is now focused on a new concern: Hantavirus.

Why the alarm? The outbreak has already resulted in seven confirmed cases and three deaths, with exposure/contact tracing involving people from roughly 12 countries associated with the cruise ship passengers and crew. Health officials are especially concerned because symptoms can take weeks to appear, meaning infected travelers may have unknowingly crossed international borders before realizing they were sick.

What is Hantavirus?

According to Dr. McCullough’s substack:

Hantaviruses are a group of viruses of the family Hantaviridae, order Bunyavirales, with the primary human-pathogenic species classified under the genus Orthohantavirus. The rodent-borne viruses are known to cause severe diseases, including Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS) in the Americas and Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome (HFRS) in Eurasia.

Symptoms of hantavirus infection can include fever, extreme fatigue, muscle aches, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and shortness of breath. In some cases, people develop severe breathing difficulties requiring hospitalization. Symptoms usually appear between 2 to 4 weeks after being exposed to the virus, but there are reports of symptoms occurring up to 40 days after exposure.

In particular, the strand on the cruise ship has been identified as the so-called “Andes” strain:

Laboratory testing of samples from the ship confirmed the strain as Andes virus (Andes orthohantavirus), a New World hantavirus endemic to southern South America (primarily Argentina and Chile) and carried by the long-tailed pygmy rice rat (Oligoryzomys longicaudatus).

It obviously came from rats in Argentina, is there mass sickness there? Not that I've heard of. So it must not spread very easily.

Lockdown Architect Deborah Birx Smirks Over PCR Testing For Hantavirus

The former White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator who helped shape the 6-foot rule, extended lockdowns, school closures, and “15 Days to Slow the Spread” (that somehow became much longer) is once again on television recommending widespread PCR testing - this time for hantavirus.

Dr. Deborah Birx discussed a hantavirus situation linked to a cruise ship. She suggested offering PCR tests to passengers who had already disembarked and were scattered around the globe, calling it “21st-century technology” and arguing it would catch early or asymptomatic cases. She referenced lessons from COVID, noting that “we’re not testing populations… we don’t really know whether there are subclinical cases” and that “it’s never good to track viruses through symptoms; we should be tracking viruses through blood tests like PCR, we learned that with Covid.”

Is a New Deadly Pandemic About to Explode?

The answer is: No.

The disease is extremely rare, spreads with great difficulty and only with intimate physical contact.

COVID was engineered (yes, it was) to spread easily and rapidly in tiny airborne droplets that evaded most attempts at masking and sanitation.

"Patient Zero" was the husband of a bird watcher couple who in March wandered around a rat-infested trash dump in Argentina's Tierra del Fuego Province hoping to sight some rare bird. Apparently he inhaled some rat-@#$% infested dust. After this venture the couple boarded the cruise ship and several others on the cruise caught the virus. Due to the remoteness of where they were, it appears that the countries of the infected persons kept (are still keeping?) those persons under observation, with care as needed.

Credit/blame who/what you will, this is looking to be MSM Chicken-Little-ism rather than an epidemic. And take the alarmism of that cardiologist-turned-"nutritional-supplements"-salesman with an appropriately-sized block of salt.

If anyone here has plans to be a Seven-Continent Marathoner, stay clear of trash dumps in Punta Arenas, Chile or similar Argentine ports in the area.

N95 masks have seen significant price increases due to heightened demand driven by the recent Hantavirus outbreak, particularly the Andes strain cluster linked to cruise ship travel in May 2026.  The CDC and health experts recommend N95 respirators for protection against the virus, which spreads through inhalation of aerosolized particles from rodent droppings, leading consumers and healthcare workers to rush for supplies.  This surge in demand, combined with limited domestic manufacturing capacity and reliance on overseas supply chains, has caused prices to spike to "ridiculous" highs on retail platforms, mirroring patterns seen during previous pandemic-related mask shortages.(ai)

I think that's the salient point here. That strain apparently is spreadable human-to-human, but doesn't seem to be overly communicable, so unless I see a fast rise in documented cases I'm not too worried.

Hantavirus has been endemic (present but not active) forever in the western U.S.

I remember even in the late '70's when I was with the State Dept. of Health, discussing the disease  with the CDC.  The conventional thought back then, is that disease transmission is minimal, unless you work or live in a rodent infested area, and you get intimate with their fecal matter.

So, yes with my knowledge and experience, I say let's not let our government pull off what constitutes another false flag full scare by shutting down anything at this point,

In fact the last year of data I found 2023, there were about 24 cases of human infection in the United States.  Don't remember us panicking then.   :thud:

That's a different strain, but it's nasty if you get it. The vector is mice, and the virus is often inhaled with particulates from their feces or crystallized urine.

There was an outbreak over Poplar, Montana many years back which severely sickened a few folks, and IIRC, a couple died, more have died in subsequent cases.

HANTAVIRUS IN MONTANA
Since 1993, Montana has reported 11 deaths due to hantavirus infection, according to the Montana Department of Public Health & Human Services. In Montana, hantavirus is primarily spread by deer mice but can also be spread by the white-footed mouse in eastern Montana.

Studies have shown that deer mice are the most common host of the virus and are well dispersed throughout Montana. People can become infected with hantavirus when saliva, urine, or droppings from an infected deer mouse are stirred up and inhaled. It is important to avoid activities that raise dust, such as sweeping or vacuuming, if there are signs of rodents in the area.

For now, public health officials continue stressing that there is no immediate cause for alarm.

“No need for panic, particularly in the U.S.,” Gardner said. “Current recommendations are...the risk is extremely low.”

Well, I'm in MT... More than half my life working in barns and feed warehouses... Plenty of mice and rats... Plenty of shoveling, and dust kicked up... Never wore a mask, ever.

I think they determined it was from mouse excreta in heating ducts. The liquids dried, crystalized, and went airborne, as did crumbs of poo. People inhaled the dust and got sick, but if there was any person to person contagion, it was between people who lived in the same place (which made it hard to determine if they caught it from the dust from the ducts or other people).
The North American variety pops up here and there, but seldom gets widespread. If this variety were the sort of bug that could go pandemic without artificial enhancement (if you get my drift), I would think we'd have heard of it doing so where it comes from.
But panic mongers get their kicks from stampeding the herd, and the herd has been on edge for a while.

I don't know if I have had it or not. I caught some wicked lung crud back when the Poplar outbreak was going on, and I was working near Scobey, up north of Wolf Point. It took years before they got duct cleaners to work over those skid shacks, and who knows what was blowing around them? I've spent plenty of time in barns, too, (some tobacco, some livestock and hay) and knocking around musty places with plenty of mouse sign, and I think it's pretty rare a human hits the right window between the virus being deposited and it going inactive.
So I think there are a lot of factors involved in catching it, and you have to be the wrong place at the right time. As for human to human, a cruise ship isn't exactly the best environment for avoiding what other people breathe out unless you spend all your time on deck. The corridors and cabins would resemble apartments, and might not be as much fresh air as the barn, so close contact would be possible, especially among a group quartered together or close.

While little would make the Democrats happier than another pandemic to push for mail in voting fraud, I don't think this is it.
