One rule for you, none for them

The two-tiered system of justice is really starting to grate on the American people.

Jay Rogers | May 6, 2026

If my dog bites a neighbor, I face legal and financial liability.  If I lie on a job application and my employer finds out, I am escorted to the parking lot before lunch.  In America, accountability flows downhill, fast and without mercy — unless, of course, you happen to work in Washington.

The frustration among ordinary American taxpayers has reached a pitch that no amount of press conferences or oversight hearings can muffle.  We follow the rules.  We pay our taxes.  We accept the consequences of our mistakes.  And then we watch, slack-jawed, as the political class operates by an entirely different code — one in which careers survive scandals that would land the rest of us in handcuffs.

Start with the Russia investigation.  The 2023 Durham Report concluded that the FBI launched a full investigation into Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign based on unanalyzed intelligence, a charitable way of saying they ran with a story they never bothered to verify.  Former CIA director John Brennan and former FBI director James Comey promoted claims they had no business repeating.  Grand jury proceedings have since been opened against several figures involved in the affair.

Operation Crossfire Hurricane was launched in July 2016.  Nearly a decade on, not one former intelligence or law enforcement official has spent a single day behind bars.  If an ordinary citizen filed a false police report, he would be arrested, charged, and mocked on the local evening news.  When the FBI’s former leadership does it with the full apparatus of the surveillance state, they collect book deals and cable television contracts.

Then there is the case of Ashli Babbitt.  An unarmed 14-year Air Force veteran was shot and killed during the events of January 6, 2021.  The Capitol Police officer responsible was cleared by an internal review, and in 2025, the federal government settled with her family for nearly $5 million, writing a check to make the problem disappear rather than answer basic questions about force and accountability.  Meanwhile, hundreds of January 6 defendants faced prosecutions that President Trump later described as politically motivated, and he pardoned many of them on his first day back in office.  Whatever your view of that day, a government that pays millions to settle a wrongful death claim while refusing to answer hard questions about how an unarmed citizen ended up dead has something to hide.
