Texas jury sentences man to death for murder of a 7 year old

The FedEx driver who kidnapped and killed little Athena Strand will be put to death for his horrific crimes after a jury handed him to the death penalty.

Tanner Horner, 34, was delivering packages to Athena's family home in Paradise, Texas, in November 2022 before he scooped her up, placed her in his truck and shut the door.

Athena, seven, fought for her life in the back of his truck before he brutally killed her.

He pleaded guilty to capital murder and aggravated kidnapping on April 7, hours before his trial was set to start.

The jury, which was made up of an even split between men and women, took two hours and 50 minutes to deliberate on whether Horner deserved to die.

Horner was emotionless as the execution sentence was announced on Tuesday.

After the decision was handed down, Athena's uncle Elijah Strand faced her killer directly, saying: 'I want you to know that you are nothing. You are a footnote in Athena's story.

'Her name will forever be remembered. Her name will forever be celebrated and everyone will forget you.'

Good. Of course he'll sit in a cell for 30 years waiting for the sentence to be carried out but that might not be a bad thing.

He won't be Mr. Popularity and the waiting is the hardest part.

And that is the problem. Endless appeals.  You get 2 bites at the apple and then you fry.  Get the express lane back.
You don’t become cooler with age but you do care progressively less about being cool, which is the only true way to actually be cool.

I am challenging any death penalty opponent — there are millions of them, allegedly — to step up to the plate right now and explain why this guy should not be executed. His guilt is established beyond any doubt whatsoever. His crime is utterly savage and heinous. Tell us why he doesn’t deserve to die. Go ahead.

I don't think Prisons put Death Row inmates in Gen Pop, or let them exercise with them.  No cheating the hangman!

Texas has tough rules for Capital Crimes.  I don't think he's gonna get decades to wait for it.

The condemned should receive no advance notice as to date and/or time of execution.

The priest/Iman should be able to drop in on him while he's eating dessert.

In this case, I certainly hope so.
