Trump: ‘Jimmy Kimmel Should Be Immediately Fired by Disney and ABC’

Jasmyn Jordan27 Apr 202641

President Donald Trump on Monday called for Disney and ABC to fire late-night host Jimmy Kimmel after he said First Lady Melania Trump had “a glow like an expectant widow” in a monologue that preceded a shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote: “Wow, Jimmy Kimmel, who is in no way funny as attested to by his terrible Television Ratings, made a statement on his Show that is really shocking. He showed a fake video of the First Lady, Melania, and our son, Barron, like they were actually sitting in his studio, listening to him speak, which they weren’t, and never would be. He then stated, ‘Our First Lady, Melania, is here. Look at Melania, so beautiful. Mrs. Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow.’ A day later a lunatic tried entering the ballroom of the White House Correspondents Dinner, loaded up with a shotgun, handgun, and many knives. He was there for a very obvious and sinister reason.”

“I appreciate that so many people are incensed by Kimmel’s despicable call to violence, and normally would not be responsive to anything that he said but, this is something far beyond the pale. Jimmy Kimmel should be immediately fired by Disney and ABC. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP,” the president said.

Hours before the president’s statement, First Lady Melania Trump issued her own response, writing: “Kimmel’s hateful and violent rhetoric is intended to divide our country. His monologue about my family isn’t comedy — his words are corrosive and deepens the political sickness within America.” She added, “People like Kimmel shouldn’t have the opportunity to enter our homes each evening to spread hate,” and said, “Enough is enough. It is time for ABC to take a stand. How many times will ABC’s leadership enable Kimmel’s atrocious behavior at the expense of our community.”

Does Big Disney, Inc., have business before the Federal Communications Commission, the Federal Trade Commission, the Security Exchange Commission, etc.?

Jimmy is abusing the public airwaves.  He may be able to get away with that crap on Basic Cable, but not on the People's public airwaves.

Bundling ESPN with my Basic Cable package seems like an uncompetitive trade practice that results in customers unnecessarily paying more for Basic Cable to receive channels they don't want.

Kimmel thinks he's too cute by half.

At one time I thought he was funny...before he decided he was a wise political commentator. I haven't watched him in years.

He may have a tiger by the tail going after Melania. She's far tougher than his little girlie man persona.

She needs to file a lawsuit against both Kimmel and ABC.

Kimmel: ‘Widow’ joke was based on Trump age, not ‘call to assassination’
by Sophie Brams - 04/28/26 7:47 AM ET

Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel is pushing back after President Trump and first lady Melania Trump demanded he be fired over an “expectant widow” joke made days before the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) Dinner.

The comedian clarified that the quip was about their age difference, not a call to violence.

“It was a very light roast joke about the fact that he’s almost 80 and she’s younger than I am,” Kimmel said during his opening monologue on Monday night. The president is 79 and the first lady is 56.

“It was not, by any stretch of the definition, a call to assassination, and they know that,” he added. “I’ve been very vocal for many years, speaking out against gun violence in particular.”

Kimmel held a mock roast on his show last Thursday, in which he joked that the first lady has the “glow” of “an expectant widow.” The episode aired two days before a gunman opened fire after rushing security at the Washington Hilton, striking a Secret Service agent, who was uninjured. No one inside the black-tie affair was hurt.

Authorities said the suspect, 31-year-old Cole Allen, was targeting administration officials in the incident. He was charged with attempting to assassinate the president and other firearm-related offenses.

The first lady blasted Kimmel as a “coward” on Monday and called on ABC to “take a stand.”

“Kimmel’s hateful and violent rhetoric is intended to divide our country. His monologue about my family isn’t comedy- his words are corrosive and deepens the political sickness within America,” she said in a statement posted on social media. “People like Kimmel shouldn’t have the opportunity to enter our homes each evening to spread hate.”

The president said the joke was “really shocking,” renewing his calls for Kimmel to be taken off the air.

“Wow, Jimmy Kimmel, who is in no way funny as attested to by his terrible Television Ratings, made a statement on his Show that is really shocking,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post on Monday.

“He was there for a very obvious and sinister reason,” he continued, referencing the alleged gunman. “I appreciate that so many people are incensed by Kimmel’s despicable call to violence, and normally would not be responsive to anything that he said but, this is something far beyond the pale.”

Disney, ABC’s parent company, had not responded as of early Tuesday.

Kimmel acknowledged in his monologue on Monday that the experience was “traumatic and scary” for those attending the dinner, including the first lady, but argued calls to tone down the rhetoric should also be directed at the president.

“I agree that hateful and violent rhetoric is something we should reject. I do, and I think a great place start to dial that back would be to have a conversation with your husband about it,” he said. “Because I also should point out: Donald Trump is allowed to say whatever he wants to say, as are you and as am I, as are all of us, because under the First Amendment, we have, as Americans, a right to free speech.”

“But with that said, I am sorry that you and the President and everyone in that room on Saturday went through that, I really am,” Kimmel continued. “Just because no one got killed doesn’t mean it wasn’t traumatic and scary, and we should come together and be best. We really should.”

Disney under fire as ABC grapples with another Jimmy Kimmel controversy
The host's 'expectant widow' jab about Melania Trump went viral after a third assassination attempt

The latest controversy hovering over liberal comedian Jimmy Kimmel is leaving a sour taste among those in ABC's orbit.

Kimmel is under fire yet again, this time for a poorly-timed joke he made targeting President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump just two days before Saturday's shocking assassination attempt at the White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA) Dinner, where the Trumps and nearly the entire Cabinet were located.

On his own program, the late-night host depicted his own version of the WHCA Dinner where he emceed the annual gala, and leveled several jabs at both the president and first lady.

"Our first lady, Melania, is here. Look at Melania, so beautiful. Mrs. Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow," Kimmel said, sparking laughs from the liberal audience.

Kimmel forces ABC to ‘think long and hard’ about what’s being broadcast under parent company Disney
April 28, 2026 | Kevin Haggerty

An unapologetic late-night host once again left ABC’s parent company to take the heat as even those tied to the broadcast company asked, “Are these values the ones you want to portray?”

“Disney has lost its way…”

Having previously faced heat for suggesting Charlie Kirk’s assassin was a part of the “MAGA gang,” Jimmy Kimmel stirred up new controversy with a joke prior to the latest attempted assassination of President Donald Trump that First Lady Melania Trump looked like an “expectant widow.”

While some characterized the joke as poorly-timed and others saw it as indicative of the pervasive rhetoric fomenting violence against conservatives, insiders called on ABC to “think long and hard” about what was being broadcast under parent company Disney.

“The government should have zero about who is on air,” an ABC staffer told Fox News Digital. “But if I were the head of a media company–news, sitcoms, whatever–I’d think long and hard about the country I wanted to mirror back to my viewers.”

ABC let his show continue after his comments regarding Charlie Kirk.  They don't care.  Kimmell draws the far left and TDS crowds.  It boosts rating for awhile and at least brings focus on the network though in a disturbed way.

We've got to give some serious thought to stopping these calls for termination -- especially from the Office of the President (or his wife).

Both the Trumps are perfectly free to express their opinion of the "joke",  but their calling for such punitive action is contrary to free speech and reinforces a new and dangerous precedent.

We've more important, and better, things to do.

Just my opinion.

IIRC Kimmel had a sick child. I wonder how he and leftist elites would have responded if someone made a joke about him being a future glowing bereaved parent....

ABC is a broadcaster that uses the public airwaves. The public air waves are supposed to serve the public which is a requirement of their license. When they work against the interests of half the public there is a problem. If they want to stop using the public air waves and go cable only, then they can say whatever they want.

His fragile temperament makes the viewer uncomfortable.  Pretty much the opposite of Johnny Carson ... who was also a liberal, but nobody could tell, and nor did he ever consider preaching to his audience.  You can find great appearances from then Governor Reagan, Billy Graham, and William F Buckley.

Fortunately the FCC has a different opinion that yours.  They are pondering how making thinly veiled threats against a President you no longer like serves the public, which is very much in their purview.

Kimmell's comments are dark, not comical and are offensive to many.  Playing on the mindset of twisted liberal  individuals is  problematic. ABC needs to recognize that this isn't the first time Kimmel has "joked" about someone being assassinated; and just might be interpreted as purposefully cruel, especially since one assassination attempt resulted in death.

When we as a society cheer or delight in assassinations, we've become quite uncompassionate and despicable.

Trump should have simply asked ABC if Kimmel's comments represent ABC because in many ways he is the face of ABC. Let them ponder that and the consequences that come with it. It would have made it a lot easier for ABC to say goodbye to Kimmel. By demanding they fire him, Trump puts them in a no-win position.
