Most of the people in that Washington Hilton ballroom tonight are morally responsible for what just happened.

For over 10 years they’ve pushed the most hateful, vile conspiracies: Trump is a threat to democracy, a dictator, literally Hitler 2.0.

They demonized him nonstop, normalized violence in their rhetoric, then acted shocked when the inevitable keeps occurring.

The armed suspect at the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) Dinner “charged from 50 yards away,” President Donald Trump said during a late night press conference Saturday.

Trump held a press conference after being whisked away at the WHCA dinner after a gunman charged a magnetometer and shot a Secret Service member in the chest. The agent was wearing a bulletproof vest, and while he was shot at a close distance “with a very powerful gun,” Trump said the “vest did the job” and that the officer is “doing great.”

The president provided further details on the shocking incident, contending that the room itself was “very very secure.”

“You know, he charged from 50 yards away,” Trump said. “So he was very far away from the room.”

The gunman who charged a security checkpoint and opened fire outside the White House Correspondents’ Dinner gunman was targeting Trump officials Saturday night, according to a report.

Cole Tomas Allen, 31, told police he was going after “administration officials” at the press gala inside the Washington Hilton hotel in Washington, DC, CBS News reported, citing sources.

He didn’t specify if he was targeting anyone in particular, or if he was trying to kill President Trump specifically, CBS News reported, citing sources.

A White House Correspondents’ Dinner volunteer said the suspected gunman appeared to assemble a “long” weapon in a lightly monitored area near the terrace-level entrance before opening fire and rushing toward the ballroom.

The witness, Helen Mabus, a volunteer working the event who said she is from Harrisburg, Pa., described a “makeshift room” near the entrance where bar carts were being stored and where “there was no security” at the time.

“He was in that room […] he grabbed it out of a bag or something,” Mabus said, adding that the weapon “was long” and “didn’t look like a typical gun.”

This thread started out just covering the dinner when this happened..at the time I didn't even think of moving it I was just trying to get all the info I could re the shooting...

Last night, CNN, TMZ, CBS and others reported the dinner gunman was “confirmed dead.”  In fact, he was alive and had not been shot.  (Just shot at).  At a dinner honoring White House reporting, the rush to be first instead of being accurate was on full display. Speaks volumes.
