Four Teens Charged With Firearms Possession at Florida High School

Authorities announced a significant firearms bust at a high school in Florida over the weekend.

On Friday afternoon, a physical altercation broke out at Plant City High School.

School officials intervened and during an ensuing investigation, discovered that two male students had passed their backpacks to two other male students who attempted to hide them on campus.

A Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office school resource deputy and administrators located the bags and discovered two handguns, one of which was loaded.

Four suspects were arrested. They were identified and charged as follows:

Sixty years ago lots of kids brought their riflrs and pistols to school for use on the school's firing range, ROTC, and to go hunting after school. No one cared.

Less than that... That's me, and I graduated in '80.

I got to this town in 1979, and remember rows of pickups outside the high school with rifle racks in the back windows (loaded) and most of them were not even locked. They belonged to the students, some for show, most to go hunting on the way home from school.

Back East, things were more  complicated, even then.

yup. that was me all the way through the 80s and 90s... Gun rack and all... Still is a gun rack in the truck, but the only time the rifles are in it is when I am going to the woods. Still guns in the truck now, well, were guns in it till it got parked due to my disability, but they were not in plain sight anymore... Still unlocked all the time, and the key has never left the ignition.

Though toward the ind of high school, I might admit that the school asked us to check our guns at the office instead of leaving them in the truck during hunting season particularly, and anytime besides because too many guns were being stolen from the lot. Had to tie a toe-tag on them guns with name and etc on it and just check it in at the office.

I did it a couple times, but decided against it... I had a bit of a reputation, as did the redneck boys I ran with... Anyone busting into our trucks was liable to get a toe tag themselves... Never had any trouble with it.

Yeah. Having a little bit of a reputation has saved me more trouble than my abilities would have got me out of. Works fine by me.
I don't mess with anyone, and just want the same.

Back in 69' in junior high I was a member of the, wait for it, California Cadet Corps and we had target practice with .22's fired into bullet trap s on the tennis courts....right next to a major street. How's that for sheer lunacy, live fire by a group of kids, most or even all who never fired a rifle before next to a major street and inline with a shopping center :silly: :silly: :silly: Apparently none of missed because the police never came by :pondering:

I wasn't cool enough to have me a square body pickem up truck with a gun rack in the back (non sliding glass) window in HS.  So we just put our shotguns in the trunk of my 65 Buick Skylark Gran Sport clone nex to a 6 pack of PBR cans we lifted from one of our parents basement fridge.

As the song goes; We were wanna be rebels who didn't have a clue. With our Rock n' roll T-shirts, and our typically bad attitudes. We were brave, we were crazy, we were mostly.....Young!

You don’t become cooler with age but you do care progressively less about being cool, which is the only true way to actually be cool.

[...] a square body pickem up truck with a gun rack in the back (non sliding glass) window

Hold on now... You gotta have the beer can window. I mean, you can practice raising your arm just right out of the side window, let go of that beer can, and let the wind take it into the back of the truck... but the beer can window... Now THAT is a real piece of real world engineering, right there...  You can keep your butt-warmers and your cup holders... But the beer can throwing window is dang near a necessity. Too bad they don't offer it on these new four-door pickup models. I guess they figure you can fill up that back seat with cans just as easy.

Of course, the clippity gizmo that holds the beer can window shut and locked has to be busted off... No square body exists with a beer can window clippity in pristine condition... And at around 70 mph there's an awful whistle coming from the beer can window starting to suck air because the clippity is broke off...

Kinda handy, because then you know for sure you're hitting 70 mph, because the speedometer is always broke too.

It's a feature. 😂🤣😂
