Intended to maintain the ceasefire?  That is absurd and ridiculous.  Iran broke the ceasefire and the response from the U.S. should now be open fire on Iran with FULL impact. 

They continue to break the ceasefire and Tehran has drawn a red line in the sand resisting turning over uranium.

So what is Trump now waiting for???  Any treaty/agreement has been broken.

Its a deal at any cost. Waiting for a written/diplomatic response. Treaty/agreements are never broken, they just need to change a few words to keep them on track. And pretty soon it will be the 4th and the attack cannot commence until afterward, but then there are the midterms [ which 47 does not care about ], but any attack will have to wait until they are done. Then its Christmas, then New Year.

So maybe after Easter next year, 47 might find the political will to resume attacking - if Iran has not made a nuke and used it by then.

The United States would orchestrate a deal to end the war with Iran and, in exchange, a slew of countries across the Middle East and South Asia would join an agreement, called the Abraham Accords, establishing relations with Israel.

In fact, he said, that “should be mandatory.” But half of the countries he named — such as Egypt, Jordan and Turkey — already have relations with Israel. And the other half — including Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Pakistan — have no interest in establishing them anytime soon.

As a result, the meandering ultimatum that Mr. Trump shared on Monday was met with a mix of silence and bemusement across the Middle East. Regional analysts said they were not even sure that they understood the rationale behind his proposal. Why would ending the war, which the United States and Israel initiated by bombing Iran on Feb. 28, provide an incentive to recognize Israel for countries like Qatar, which had lobbied desperately to prevent the war in the first place?

“It’s just bizarre,” said Yoel Guzansky, a senior fellow at the Institute for National Security Studies at Tel Aviv University in Israel. “What’s the connection between a deal with Iran and that? I’m honestly puzzled.”

In an attempt to speed up the negotiations, Pakistan’s foreign minister, Mohammad Ishaq Dar, will fly to Washington on Friday to meet his US counterpart, Marco Rubio.

Tehran targeted a US airbase in Kuwait on Thursday after Washington struck what it described as an Iranian drone operation near the strait of Hormuz, highlighting the fragile situation as both sets of negotiators refuse to cede ground on final points of disagreement. Trump’s Wednesday cabinet had been expected to discuss the deal, but Axios reported the US president as saying he needed a few more days to think about it.

The draft Trump has shared is not vastly different to the one that has been circulating across the Middle East for days, under which the strait of Hormuz would be opened to commercial shipping, the US blockade of Iranian ports would be lifted and Iran would be given access to as much as $12bn (£9bn) in frozen assets.

The aim would be for commercial shipping in the strait to return to pre-war levels within 30 days and for negotiations envisaged to last as long as 60 days to commence on the future of Iran’s nuclear programme. This would include discussions about its stockpile of highly enriched uranium, a time-limited suspension of further enrichment and supervision by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the UN’s nuclear watchdog. Iran would renounce the use of nuclear weapons.

China is pressing for the UN security council to ratify any agreement.

The current scope of the agreement would be deeply unpalatable for Israel, because it defers Iran making any firm nuclear commitments and requires a permanent ceasefire to include Lebanon.

In case you hadn't noticed, anyone who runs for Prime Minister in Israel who promises peace is, at best, delusional.

Hamas, Hizb'allah, Iran itself, and surrounding countries and other proxies are all on the list of people who have attacked (and continue to attack) Israel.

Just because Bibi has been prime minister for 18 years + total, does not mean that war and the threat of war have not plagued others who have held the office for a shorter cumulative period. David Ben Gurion was the only other Prime minister to serve for over ten years total, and his cumulative time in office is 13 years, 5 years behind Bibi.

When you are surrounded by enemies, conflict is inevitable. When you are attacked, a meaningful response is required.

Some of their more guerilla-like capabilities survive, from minor gunboats, minelayers, and missile launchers which can constitute a threat, to drones. At least those are relevant to a major force without boots on the ground. Israel will continue to peck away at their capabilities, and doubtless amass new intel on where the people calling the shots there are hanging their hats, and eliminate targets of opportunity.

In the meantime, reestablishing shipping for the non-Iran countries there is important for the global economy and lightens the pressure to absolve Iran of any sanctions.

I think we would all prefer some serious regime change in Iran, and are dissatisfied with that outcome, but this is a cease fire, not an armistice. That gives us time to come up with creative solutions for the deep facilities that bunker busters have so far been unable to destroy, and any weapons stored in them (we can use a hudna to our advantage, too).

It isn't over. Not all of the goals have been achieved, especially in respect to nuclear materials.

Netanyahu actually promised to prevent peace if peace meant a two state solution  --- because it would challenge fulfillment of Likud's charter:  "From the river to the Sea will be Israeli sovereignty".

To this end, Netanyahu entered into a deal with Hamas, authorizing the payment of over $1 billion unaudited US dollars through Qatar ---  to keep Hamas in power in Gaza and prevent their unification with the PA and Fatah in the West Bank.  It was his way of helping to insure a two state solution would be impossible. (More Israeli settlements in the West Bank was the other part of the strategy)

It sure looks like Netanyahu had not heard of "FAFO".

US denies Iranian reports claiming American aircraft was shot down: officials

Two U.S. officials told Fox News on Thursday that no American assets were shot down by Iran, pushing back on Iranian state media reports claiming a U.S. aircraft had been downed.

Three problems with this "Memorandum of Understanding":

1. No commitment by Iran to abandon their ballistic missile program
2. No commitment by Iran to discontinue support of worldwide terror groups
3. Acknowledgement by the USA that Iran has jurisdiction over the Strait of Hormuz, even if they do "allow" ships to pass freely.

I also doubt that Iran will  give up its rights to enrich uranium in this memo. That will be a matter to be resolved later. All this deal will do is trade our lifting of the blockade for their opening the Strait.
