Via MyNewsLa.com: Research led by UCLA suggests climate change and natural disasters are driving increases in homelessness across the United States, with experts warning that housing stability must be a central focus of disaster response, it was announced Thursday.

The findings come from four recently published peer-reviewed studies examining homelessness nationwide and in Los Angeles County, including the impact of the 2025 wildfires and broader links between displacement and housing loss, according to researchers.

“Each home lost to climate-related events, per 10,000 people, was associated with a significant, 1 percentage point greater increase in homelessness,” Dr. Kathryn Leifheit, assistant professor in the UCLA Fielding School’s Department of Health Policy and Management, said in a statement.

“Our findings underscore the reality that homelessness can be seen as a predictable consequence of climate disasters, so governments should focus on housing stabilization in their disaster response plans, while dedicating adequate funding to provide housing-specific services.”

Homelessness can also be linked to volcanoes, tsunamis, earthquakes, avalanches, landslides, and forestfires.

Homelessness can also be linked to volcanoes, tsunamis, earthquakes, avalanches, landslides, and forestfires.

And to rent control, NIMBY-influenced zoning laws, pointless governmentally imposed requirements that make retrofitting disused office buildings as apartment buildings prohibitively expensive, excessive permitting requirements to rebuild homes destroyed in wildfires (cf. Los Angeles),....

And yes, there are villains in the private-sector, too, to the conversion of existing housing stock into short-term rentals.

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
Homelessness can also be linked to volcanoes, tsunamis, earthquakes, avalanches, landslides, and forestfires.
Not to mention importing 20,000,000 taxpayer subsidized illegal aliens and kicking Americans out in the cold (likely by just raising the rent to ridiculous amounts).

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
