Precisely. Everyone should stay in their lanes.

That said, the image of Trump as a divine (perhaps saintly) figure (note, no caps), is a mega troll of the Imams and Mullahs.

I take it as just another bit of wartime propaganda (for our side), but ill considered for the backlash it evokes from those of us who see him as just a man in a difficult role. Because I see the propaganda aspect, I'm not seeing so much sacrilegious intent. The Pope has his own country to run (The Vatican), and anyone who was busy blessing a block of ice and fretting over where God has set the thermostat really has lost a lot of his thunder in this, IMHO.

May Almighty God guide them both (and whoever is doing the optics for the administration).

At least it doesn't portray Trump with a halo, like some of the images of Obama lined up on heraldry in the background.

Like Summer vacation:
No class.

But I think the image,, while depicting some sort of divine appellation, and maybe some sort of manifest destiny in a divine sort of way... While all that is maybe true, and the misuse of religious imagery is quite apparent...

Still, I think the idea that it is meant to invoke some imagery of Christ is a pretty shallow interpretation.

Good post btw.

Well, can you imagine the weight on his shoulders, trying to literally save the world from mass destruction and then being criticized by the Pope of all people along with 3 cardinals??

I'm not saying what Trump did was right; it was distasteful.  I am saying that there's a reason for separation of Church and State and it needs to stay that way.

Both the Pope and Trump did more harm than good ... but correct me if I'm wrong, but the Pope threw the first shots.  Trump is not one to back down and he shot back.

What a mess.  I pray for both of them!!!

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
Problem is that red and white robe is many many times and ways the Jesus was depicted.

Still can't get my head around in what universe Trump thought this was a good idea.  Hate to say, but kind of wondering about his state of judgement at this point,.  i know he has said many many and posting the outrageous in the past, but this one?  No one in sound mind would do this, and not expect a fire storm.
Not many depictions of Jesus without a halo.

Though I am a Catholic I do agree with both Vance and Trump.  Out of reverence to my Catholic upbringing I respect the Pope however I do not respect his political input.

Vance says Vatican should ‘stick to morality’ as Iran war fuels Trump–pope rift

Vice President JD Vance said Monday that the Vatican should focus on matters concerning the Catholic Church and morality, responding to rising tensions between the Trump administration and the Holy See.

Speaking on “Special Report with Bret Baier,” Vance also maintained that President Donald Trump is responsible for handling American public policy.

“In some cases, it would be best for the Vatican to stick to matters of morality, to stick to matters of what's going on in the Catholic Church and let the President of the United States stick to dictating American public policy,” Vance said.

“But when they're in conflict, they're in conflict. I don't worry about it too much. Brett, I think it's a natural thing,” he added, before maintaining that “it's not that big of a deal.”

Vance’s remarks came as tensions mounted between Trump and the Vatican after Pope Leo XIV criticized U.S. policy on the Iran war and immigration.

"Pope Leo is WEAK on Crime, and terrible for Foreign Policy," Trump said in a lengthy post on Sunday.

"Leo should get his act together as Pope, use Common Sense, stop catering to the Radical Left, and focus on being a Great Pope, not a Politician. It’s hurting him very badly and, more importantly, it’s hurting the Catholic Church," he added.......

Trump absolutely is depicted as Christ in that meme.  Trump is wearing a red and white robe.  He has light (power to heal in his hand).  Also that same light (power) shows up when he touches the man's forehead.  It's pretty sick...  Trump may claim to be a Christian, but his words don't reflect that.....as far as I can see.

Trump was slinging back at the Pope. Granted he went too far.  Pope Leo took the first unnecessary shot and IMO I doubt that Trump would have  just arbitrarily depicted himself as Jesus.  It doesn't make what Trump did as right, but it doesn't exactly make what the Pope did as right either.

Just because Pope Leo is 'the pope' doesn't mean whatever he does should be accepted.  Same goes for President Trump.  Neither should be given a free pass.

No Halo. Jesus and the Saints are almost always depicted with a halo.

He coulda just flew down to Italy and dropped trou driving by the Vatican giving the pope a big ol full moon...

It would be equally sophomoric and less irreverent. I say that quietly because I wouldn't put it past him, and I don't mean to give him ideas.

Read earlier that the Mullah's came out with vocal support for the Vatican.   Not exactly what 'ol Leo was prob. looking for.

People are flailing trying to rationalize exactly as Trump the Narcissist himself, calling it a “doctor”.

HE re-posted it on (his own) Truth Social, obviously likes it…for whatever reason, doesn’t matter.

It doesn’t matter what he or anyone else thinks or says it is, MANY of us exactly first-impression see it as a representation of Jesus.

No, the halo or what you think of clothes or that he wasn’t put in a beard doesn’t matter.  We know what it is meant to be, and you can’t talk millions of us out of it.

No, it’s not as if he was in the place of St. Peter, or any apostle, or a saint of the ancient days.

The fact some fools made Uhbama with a halo doesn’t matter.  Did Uhbama re-post them?  Maybe he would have if he spent as much time on the net and his cell phone as Don does constantly.  But he didn’t.  Big difference.

It’s an affront to put oneself in the place of God or the Christ.  Period.  Even if Don thought it was someone’s depiction of the manner Leo is talking about Trump, so rather tongue-in-cheek, it’s bad form to promote it.

Too bad Trump and company can’t stop posting crap.  Seems he has a lot of time to be constantly on the cell posting his gripes, all night etc.  said it before…I’d hate to be this guys press secretary.  What’s the point when he spouts off on his own?

Do I happen to support Trumps stances in many cases?  Yes.  Do I support him all ways?  No, and definitely don’t support his unprofessional mouth and stupid postings (recall the superhero digital cards?). And he topped it all with his God stand-in.

As a non-Catholic I am happy with this new pope because at least I do not question whether or not he is a Catholic. Mr. Bergoglio was a poseur and he made "Is the Pope Catholic?" into a legitimate question.

Leo, for his faults, is still an improvement over the communist heretic.

I disagree.  If anything Leo at best is a socialist and leans towards communism.  Just my opinion.

As previously stated in here, he needs to stay in his own lane.  I agree and believe that is necessary for World peace.

Gee, interesting ....it took a 12 year old to secure our border.  It took a 12 year old to take out the Ayatollah.  It's taking a 12 year old to create a barricade in the Strait.

If Trump is a 12 year old many Presidents before him were 5 year olds.  No worries, the adult in the room is saving our country.

I don't disagree he's done a lot of good i just think that optics matter.

I mean he operates like a normal president... but then turns around and posts "your civilization will be destroyed" which to me just looks bad for the US and only hurts us. I see no reason for it but the base loves it so whatever i guess.

IIRC, he tried diligently to deal with the Iranians with some civility at first.  That didn't work. They continued to slaughter thousands of their own people who were protesting.  These people are barbaric and trying to deal with them in a civil manner does not work; it definitely hasn't worked in the past and isn't working now.

I think you need to realize that these people have chanted "death to America and Americans"  and threaten destruction to our country and to Americans. They are not bluffing. They've done this for decades, so I don't see that Trump telling them that their civilization will be destroyed is anything so awful.  That is what they understand.

Explain to me why that looks bad for the U.S. when the Iranians have been vowing to not only destroy the U.S. but the Western world and somehow that has been acceptable and in fact Obama and cronies have assisted them with $$ and Lord only knows what kind of 'deals' Kerry made with them.

No.  What they have done and what they vow to do to our country and western civilization is NOT acceptable.  Trump stopping them from having a nuke is saving the world.  Find fault with the way he's handling things all you want.

No, I don't agree with some of the things that he's done and I don't give him a free pass...but at the same time right now, he's trying to bring about peace and the Pope decides to criticize him.  The Pope is wrong and it is bringing about harmful dissension throughout the world. Sure, Trump may have been better off ignoring the Pope but at the same time the Pope needs to worry about the Catholic Church and the hundreds of thousands of Christians (not just Catholics) that are being persecuted.  How is finding fault with Trump who is trying to bring about world peace helping?

You likely won't agree with me, but I've stated my opinion and I'm not going to defend this issue any further.

This thread has taken away from the thread about the ongoing war in Iran, which is much more important.  Just sayin'
