What Stupid Ayatollahs.. Kevin McCullough

What Stupid Ayatollahs
Kevin McCullough

There’s a classic scene in “Hoosiers” where the interim coach offers to help Gene Hackman’s character. Hackman declines, and the coach delivers one of the most memorable lines in sports movie history:

“There’s two kinds of stupid in this world. One is the kind where a man gets naked and barks at the moon in the middle of the woods. The other is the man who does the same thing in my living room.”

Well, the ayatollahs in Iran have officially moved from the woods… to the living room.

And the problem is—they don’t seem to know it.

Because if you look at what’s happening right now in the negotiations involving the United States, Iran, and intermediaries like Pakistan, you don’t see strategy.

McCullough's analysis, such as it is, has two problems:  one is Trump's mercurial personality, which hardly supports the notion of steady resolve, particularly with his eye on the mid-terms.  The other is that so long as Trump does not switch the goal to regime change, and put some sort of boots on the ground, maybe arming regional militias rather than committing American forces, maybe judicious commitment of US troops, they can almost certainly hold on until inauguration day in 2028, when they will most likely get either the uber-isolationist J.D. Vance or a business-as-usual democrat as their counterpart in America, vindicating their strategy.

And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.

The money lines, FTA:

Quote
So, yes, there are two kinds of stupid in this world.

And right now, the ayatollahs are demonstrating—on the global stage, in real time—which kind they’ve chosen to be.

The only question left is whether they realize it before the consequences finish teaching the lesson for them.

The Iranians aren't learning.  They think they can stall their way through this, based on their experience with Presidents in the past.  Consequences are fast approaching.

They won't survive long enough to reap those benefits.  They may not even survive two weeks!

Perhaps not the particular lot in charge right now, but the clerical regime has disbursed command and control both for their offensive military capacity and their apparatus of repression, so if we take off the next heads of the hydra with air-power only, more will grow.  Unless we're either willing to put boots on the ground or commit war-crimes by taking measures that will directly or indirectly slaughter masses of Iranians, including those who would rather see the end of the clerical regime, they (in the sense of the clerics and the IRGC, whose puppets the current and likely next few "Supreme Leaders" are) will hang on.
And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.

As I said in a post elsewhere in the forum, from the moment Mr. Trump proposed a cease-fire the iranians would regard it as a hudna -- so the longer "the stall", the more they (the iranians) believe it can work in their favor while they regroup...

Then the Iranians made a big mistake meeting with JD in Pakistan.
