Federal officials are investigating whether top medical schools are complying with a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that prohibits the use of race in admissions decisions.
Stanford University, Ohio State University, and the University of California, San Diego are under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice.
The investigation follows the Supreme Court’s June 2023 decision in Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard, which held that race-conscious admissions programs at Harvard University and the University of North Carolina violated the Equal Protection Clause.
In its opinion, the Court said those admissions programs could not be reconciled with constitutional requirements and prohibited the use of race as a determining factor in admissions decisions.
