Democrat calls Operation Epic Fury a 'strategic failure'

Retired Marine Rep. Jake Auchincloss, D-Mass., joined 'Fox News Sunday' to discuss the success of Operation Epic Fury, criticizing the move to highlight the importance of the Strait of Hormuz, arguing it gave Iran leverage in negotiations.

Auchincloss declared the operation a "strategic failure," even as President Donald Trump and Pentagon officials have touted huge losses in Iran's military capability.

Dem Sen. Kaine: Trump and Hegseth’s Rhetoric ‘Embarrassing and Juvenile’

Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) said President Donald Trump and Secretary Pete Hegseth’s rhetoric was “embarrassing and juvenile.”

Partial transcript as follows:

KRISTEN WELKER: Let’s start with that breaking news overnight, the fact that the U.S. military was able to rescue that second pilot that was down in enemy lines in Iran. What was your reaction to learning the news, Senator?

KAINE: Overwhelming relief. Our — our Easter service at my church was last night, and I know that that was a prayer on virtually everybody’s minds during the service. And so to wake up this morning and hear about the rescue of the pilot, so very — so very grateful for that, for the service of the search and rescue teams. Kristen, this is why the — the president and Secretary Hegseth’s rhetoric about no mercy, no quarter, death from above, bomb you to the Stone Ages, this kind of rhetoric is really dangerous because the likelihood of having downed pilots or others who are captured in a war like this is very high. And if you send the message that there’s no quarter for the folks on the other side, that — that really encourages them to mistreat our folks. And so I hope the White House — I doubt the president will, but please dial back the rhetoric, because you don’t need to put people like these pilots more at risk by the rhetoric that you use.

WELKER: Well, you raise the rhetoric. Let me ask you about some of the president’s rhetoric this morning, posting on Truth Social, quote, “Open the strait, you blank bastards.” Do you think that is an effective negotiation tactic?

KAINE: No, the bombing them back to the Stone Age, cursing them, Secretary Hegseth saying, you know, ‘It’s death from above, no mercy, no quarter, we will ignore stupid rules of engagement,’ this is all embarrassing and juvenile. And it’s people trying to act like they’re puffed up and tough when what we really see from the administration in this war is the absence of a plan, the absence of a clear rationale, no effort to get allies on board, and thus deep unpopularity of this war with the American public. I know that’s the case in Virginia. I was traveling around Virginia all last week, and I’ll be doing the same this week. People see this president as having blundered into a war with no clear rationale. And there’s no amount of cursing, or boasting, or tough talk that will cover up for the fact that this president didn’t have a rationale and he doesn’t really have a plan.

Wes Moore: Trump’s Prioritize Military Spending Over Domestic Programs Is ‘Nonsense’

Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Gov. Wes Moore (D-MD) said President Donald Trump prioritizing military spending over domestic programs was “nonsense.”

Partial transcript as follows:

ED O’KEEFE: In the midst of all this, the President in recent days, told a gathering at the White House that, in his view, because of the 50 states, quote, it’s not possible for us to take care of daycare, Medicaid, Medicare, all these individual things. He argues the federal government shouldn’t have to pay for those programs because, quote, we have to take care of one thing, military protection.

MOORE: That’s nonsense. And that’s not what any of us want. We don’t want to be fighting foreign wars while you’re taking away our health care.

O’KEEFE: Could a state even pay for Medicaid and Medicare–

    MOORE: No

    O’KEEFE: –daycare without federal assistance?

MOORE: So many of the decisions that this White House is making, they are making with a clear understanding that no state has a budget to say, okay, well, we’ll just take on health care, or we’ll just take on food insecurity. We saw that happen last year when the President of the United States broke the law in order to cut SNAP. In fact, we sued them, and we won, and we beat him in court on this. But we–

O’KEEFE: Sounds like he’s going to try again, though.

MOORE: And- and- and he did try again. He actually tried to appeal the fact, you know, threw a temper tantrum, because he felt- because the judges told him that actually, no, you need to pay for food assistance for people. And what we ended up doing is, in Maryland, I actually took $63 million out of our fiscal responsibility fund, which is a fund that is made up of capital gains taxes. And I said, well, I’m not going to let the people of my state go hungry, because Washington is throwing- having a food fight. And so we made sure that SNAP and SNAP benefits were not going to be cut for the people of Maryland. But it is a deeply unfair ask to ask states and or governors, because we do things that the federal government has never done, we actually balance our budgets. And it is an unfair ask to ask us to take on what should be a joint responsibility, because the federal government has decided to stop doing its job.

GOP Rep. Lawler: Dems Shut Down DHS Because They Don’t Want to Enforce Immigration Laws

Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) said Democrats shut down the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) because they did not want to enforce immigration law.

Lawler said, “What’s not acceptable is that for this fiscal year Democrats have shut down the Department of Homeland Security for over 90 days, not paying FEMA, not paying the Coast Guard, not paying the Secret Service and not paying critical operations within the Department of Homeland Security. The fact is, Democrats. I made a very calculated decision to shut down the department because they do not want to enforce our immigration laws.”

He added, “Here is an example of not enforcing our immigration laws. In 18 year old girl in my district, Sheridan Gorman was killed in Chicago after an Illegal immigrant was allowed to enter into the United States during the Biden administration. He was captured, he was detained, he was released. He went to Chicago he committed a crime he was arrested. Under Chicago’s disastrous criminal justice laws. He was released back out onto the street and he executed this 18 year old girl. Democrats do not want to fund ICE and Customs and Border Patrol. What will happen is individuals like Jose Medina will be allowed to enter into the country and kill innocent Americas. That is wrong. I will not stand for it, and that is why we are pushing back against this.”

Fetterman Says ‘No Regrets’ Backing Israel: ‘I’ve Always Felt That’s the Moral Clarity’

During Saturday’s broadcast of FNC’s “Life, Liberty & Levin,” Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) said that he had no regrets breaking from most Democrats on backing Israel and U.S. policy that supports the Jewish state.

He described his support to host Mark Levin as “moral clarity,” regardless of the politics behind it.

“We’re here with Senator John Fetterman,” Levin said. “This is my first interview with the senator, and he’s a very nice man. We spoke briefly, and I appreciate you coming, Senator. I’m from Pennsylvania. I love Pennsylvania. It’s a great state, and you’re kind of the person — the kind of person that usually has represented Pennsylvania, that is, somebody that is not hard left, somebody that is not necessarily on the right, sort of a representative of kind of blue collar America. Do I have that about right?

Fetterman replied, “Yes, I think so. I mean, I don’t know if it’s whether I’m a moderate, but I would just — I really follow what I think is really true. You know, I never really cared you know, whatever side that is, I’ll follow, like a moral clarity. And, you know, there’s been a fracturing between me and my party with, primarily, it’s been Israel, and now, that’s why I think we originally spoke about, and here we are right now with Epic Fury. I am the only Democrat that actually supported these kinds of — so that might isolate me politically, but I’ve had no regrets, because I’ve always felt that’s the moral clarity, and I never checked, you know whatever politics are behind it.”
