Trump’s statement: He’s staying the course in Iran

The core message was that we’re winning, and we’ll be there another two or so weeks to finish the job—but the Strait of Hormuz is Europe’s problem.

When you listen to a Donald Trump speech, you know in advance that Trump is going to Trump. He tends to wander off topic and boast. He can’t help himself. But what matters is that Trump made overarching, truly important points, the most important of which is that he’s not quitting.

Funnily enough, Trump’s seemingly bombastic boasts weren’t boasts at all. When it came to what the American and Israeli militaries have accomplished in 32 days, Trump’s statements were factual, although he delivered them in typical Trump style, rather than being hedged about in bland, diplomatic language:

In these past four weeks, our armed forces have delivered swift, decisive, overwhelming victories on the battlefield. Victories like few people have ever seen before.

    [snip]

Never in the history of warfare has an enemy suffered such clear and devastating large-scale losses in a matter of weeks.

    [snip]

Our armed forces have been extraordinary. There’s never been anything like it militarily. Everyone is talking about it.

As for the meat of what Trump said, here’s a summary, which makes clear that attacking Iran was righteous, that we are winning, and that those who didn’t get on the Trump train are going to wish they had.
