Rubio Accuses Zelenskyy of Telling a Significant Lie About US Security Guarantees: 'He Knows That's Not True'

Secretary of State Marco Rubio might be the United States’ top diplomat, but there was nothing diplomatic in his language on Friday.

During a meeting with reporters at the end of a foreign ministers summit in France, Rubio was asked about a statement by Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy describing security guarantees the U.S. has offered in talks to end the Russian war in Ukraine.

Rubio’s response was blunt to the point of insult.

Rubio:  "What he was told very clearly, and he should have understood it is that security guarantees come only after there is an end to the war.  But that's not attached to 'unless he gives up territory'"

Rubio is not being ingenuous here.  He knows full well that Russia demands Ukraine surrender all of Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, and Crimea before the war can end.  So Rubio's stated condition for 'security guarantees' cannot happen until Ukraine gives up that territory.  Zelenskiy is 100% correct and accurate.  Because there is NOTHING that the Trump Administration has proposed that includes Russian withdrawal from Ukrainian territory.
