They explain that they wouldn’t smash a statue of Muhammad because there are Muslim believers in Belgium. (The fact that Muslims themselves would abhor and smash a statue of Muhammad because they would regard it as a temptation to idolatry is a separate issue.) The presence in Belgium of Christian believers, however, doesn’t make them hesitate for a moment to smash the Christian statues. This likely has more to do with the left’s contempt for Christianity, the religion of the “white oppressor,” and love for Islam, the religion of the noble, long-suffering “brown people,” than it does with the presence in Belgium of believers in both religions.
