PETALING JAYA: The Alor Gajah magistrates’ court today sentenced a man to nine months in prison for stepping on the Quran and uploading footage of the act online last month.
Bernama reported that magistrate Teoh Shu Yee handed down the sentence on Amir Abdul Malik, 41, after he pleaded guilty.
Amir was charged with desecrating Islam by recording and uploading a video of himself stepping on the Quran with the intent to insult the religion at Kampung Durian Daun, Masjid Tanah, on Feb 28.
The charge, framed under Section 295 of the Penal Code, provides for up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine or both upon conviction.
