Trump Lays Out Objectives For Winding Down Iran Operation

In a lengthy Truth Social post on Friday, President Donald Trump laid out the U.S. objectives for winding down the conflict with Iran and re-opening the vital Strait of Hormuz, a vital chokepoint responsible for handling 20 percent of global oil exports and large quantities of other valuable commodities.

“We are getting very close to meeting our objectives as we consider winding down our great Military efforts in the Middle East with respect to the Terrorist Regime of Iran,” the president wrote. He went on to list a number of objectives for the operation, many of which have already been achieved, according to the Pentagon.

This includes degrading the regime’s missile capabilities, industrial base, and “eliminating their Navy and Air Force, including Anti Aircraft Weaponry,” Trump explained. He also stated that Iran’s nuclear program must be completely dismantled and “always being in a position where the U.S.A. can quickly and powerfully react to such a situation, should it take place.”

War Secretary Pete Hegseth and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have repeatedly stated that the regime’s nuclear capabilities have been obliterated.

In addition, Trump demanded that U.S. allies in the Middle East will need to be protected. He then addressed the de facto blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which has wreaked havoc on global oil markets.

“The Hormuz Strait will have to be guarded and policed, as necessary, by other Nations who use it — The United States does not! If asked, we will help these Countries in their Hormuz efforts, but it shouldn’t be necessary once Iran’s threat is eradicated,” he continued. “Importantly, it will be an easy Military Operation for them.”

The administration is reportedly weighing missions to secure a safe passage for oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz and overtake Iran’s Kharg Island, an industrial hub in the Persian Gulf that handles 90 percent of Iran’s oil exports.

Fears that Trump will decide to send troops into Iran have been fueled by news that the Pentagon is speeding up the deployment of thousands of additional Marines and sailors to the U.S. Central Command (Centcom) area, even as the president denied that he will be sending additional manpower.

“No, I’m not putting troops anywhere,” Trump said at the White House on Thursday.

“If I were, I certainly wouldn’t tell you,” the president told reporters.

The U.S. military buildup has continued to swell as the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, which consisted of at least 2,200 Marines, departed from San Diego on amphibious assault ship USS Boxer and will head to the Middle East, days after another unit of Marines and sailors was ordered to join from the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command.

The potential for boots on the ground puts Republicans in a delicate spot, balancing support for Trump’s military objectives in Iran and worries of the conflict growing more unpopular with the public as it rages on.

That won't help (much).  The canal would also be in range of Iranian drones.

Did Mr. Trump mention removing the existing government run by the ayatollah "supreme leader", to be replaced by a secular government of some kind?

Because without doing that, the religious fanatics are just going to clean things up and start over towards building a nuclear weapon along with rebuilding the means to deliver it.

Seems kind of analogous to defeating the German army in 1945, but then leaving the Nazis in place.

Or, in Japan -- by not requiring the emperor to disclaim that he was God on earth. Didn't MacArthur essentially dictate the new Japanese constitution?

Capabilities that have been obliterated can -- and will -- be rebuilt.
It's the IDEOLOGY that requires "obliteration".

I propose that the way to achieve this is to get the leaders of the iranian army to turn on both the Republican Guards and the basij (sp?). And once they have been neutralized, then "de-throne" the remaining ayatollahs and wannabe-ayatollahs (higher-up mullahs). Tell them to take a hike.

Install a military "president" for the time being, and then try to build a secular government to which power can be handed over.

A "government of the generals" would at least be preferable to the current government of the ayatollahs. For now.
