Live updates: Blizzard 'bomb' blasts the Midwest, significant severe weather outbreak eyes millions

Atmospheric conditions have reached a breaking point this afternoon as the National Weather Service issued Tornado Watches across six states in the path of the March's latest massive storm system.

The watch area currently blankets a massive corridor from the mid-Mississippi Valley into the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys, including portions of Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and Louisiana............

............ Forecasters are warning that a rapidly consolidating line of storms will sweep eastward through the evening, bringing the potential for both embedded tornadoes and destructive straight-line winds.

The primary concern for meteorologists is the discrete nature of the storms forming ahead of the main line. These individual cells have the ability to tap into high-speed winds aloft, allowing them to rotate and potentially produce strong, long-track tornadoes (EF-2 or higher).

As the line matures into a solid squall tonight, the threat will shift toward widespread damaging wind gusts of 70+ mph, which can be just as dangerous as a tornado....................

Live in  harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.

Severe storm threat increasing across New York, Pennsylvania

Forecasters at the Storm Prediction Center are closely monitoring a line of showers across Pennsylvania right now.

That line is expected to strengthen in the hours ahead and the severe weather threat will increase across the region.

Right now, forecasters are most concerned with severe storms producing damaging winds gusts to 80 mph.

The northern edge of this life-threatening weather system is now just 20 miles south of New York City.

While the Five Boroughs are currently under a Wind Advisory and Flood Watch, the rapid expansion of this watch suggests that the atmospheric energy is holding together much further north than originally anticipated.

Residents from the Jersey Shore up to the Hudson Valley should be prepared for power outages and downed trees as these storms move at highway speeds, often arriving with less than 15 minutes of warning.

Started snowing a little while ago. It was windy the past couple of days, lost power a couple of times but came back in a couple of hours each time. After the mildness of the past week or so, this is kind of rude.  :chairbang:

I cringed when someone asked him about getting some firewood in case the truck gets shut down during the night... He said something that makes all Bushcrafters blanch .... that he had no way to light a fire... the kid and father were clueless. Even if they had to take out jumper cables and use a piece of metal to make a spark by bridging it between the hot and ground... but nothing preparedness-wise is as essential as someway to make a fire.

Last I saw, they were still stuck in the snowbank as various other trucks whizzed past them without even slowing down. Youtube limits videos to 12 hours and I think they just decided to turn off the cameras and go to sleep (which leaves them subject to possible being hit by passing traffic).

@Weird Tolkienish Figure  BTW... what did the kid do to his knee, I noticed he was little to no help when it came to shoveling the snow.

It's dang few that can coax a spark to flame anymore. Even I ain't got the knack like I used to... I can make a spindle and bow set alright, I know how to make a coal with it, and set the coal in a birdsnest, and blow the thing to life...  But since I started carrying a ferro stick all the time, I never take the time for it all anymore. BUT, the ferro rod is still a spark and you can get that spark in literally any condition - all you need is a decent kindling, and away you go.

But even that - How many folks do you know that could coax a ferro spark to flame? Heck, how many folks do you know that can start a fire with a gallon of diesel and a propane torch?
