Officials in a huge Colorado school district have thumbed their collective nose at federal regulations regarding the presence of boys on girls' athletic teams, and in girls' intimate areas like showers and motel rooms, announcing that they instead will follow the opinions from "prior federal administrations."
It is Denver's Channel 7 that reported the federal Department of Education has found Jefferson County schools in violation of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 and ordered officials there to reverse policies allowing boys who say they are girls on girls' teams.
This determination, like the one that earlier cited schools in California and preceded a federal lawsuit against those schools, was from the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights.
Jefferson County's school now face, if they do not change their practices, "imminent enforcement action" that could include the loss of federal funding.
