The same day that happened two scoutmasters in the local branch of the Church I'm a member of - then the largest Boy Scout sponsor on earth - walked in to the Bishop's office and turned in their credentials. Unknown to us at the time, that was happening all over. The Church now sponsors Trail Life.

Where I grew up we had about 12 Troops in town.  All sponsored by local churches.  Almost every Scout Mast was retired service member.  Ours was a Marine Sgt, Korean war vet.   This guy was no nonsense and a great teacher of character.  I still can't tie anything but a granny or square knot but boy do I remember many lessons on primative camping and basic survival.

Democrat James Talarico leads Republican Ken Paxton by five percentage points in a survey of likely Texas voters released Tuesday, marking a shift from earlier polling that showed the attorney general narrowly ahead or tied in the U.S. Senate contest.

Texas Public Opinion Research found Talarico leading Paxton, 45 percent to 40 percent, “marking the Austin state representative’s largest lead in any public poll taken during the general election period,” the Texas Tribune reported.

The group surveyed 1,048 likely voters from July 15 through July 17. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.

The survey found Talarico holding a commanding advantage among independents, with less than one-quarter supporting Paxton. Talarico also led among voters without college degrees, a group that has consistently favored Republicans in Texas and nationally.

Paxton received weaker support from Republican voters than he did in other recent surveys. Nearly one in five GOP respondents said they were undecided or planned to support Talarico.

The latest findings mark a shift from several June surveys. A YouGov poll of registered voters dated June 12 showed Paxton leading Talarico, 49 percent to 47 percent.

A University of Texas/Texas Politics Project survey also placed Paxton narrowly ahead, 43 percent to 42 percent. In April, the same pollster had shown Talarico leading then-Sen. John Cornyn by eight points. CNN senior political reporter Aaron Blake pointed to Paxton’s consolidation of Republican voters, with his support among GOP voters rising from 63 percent in April to 84 percent in June.

New report says Talarico may have violated Texas residency rules in 2022 campaign.

Democrat U.S. Senate nominee James Talarico is being accused of breaking election law by using his mother’s home address during his 2022 campaign for Texas House District 50.

“It is absolutely disgusting that James Talarico used his mother’s address to not only commit voter fraud, but also to defraud his entire constituency, all so he could run in a safe Democrat seat,” Paxton campaign Spokeswoman Madison Cercy said.

A new report from The Federalist details Talarico’s claim that he was “gerrymandered” out of the House District 52 seat he held during the October 2021 redistricting process. While Talarico was a Round Rock resident at the time, he announced in a tweet his intention to run for the seat in House District 50 in neighboring Travis County instead.

“Republicans have gerrymandered me out of my district…I’m grateful to everyone urging me to move back to HD50 – where I grew up – to run for the seat being vacated by my friend Rep Israel. I’m in,” Talarico posted at the time.

Democrats are salivating over new Fox News poll

Texas Republicans may be in big trouble come the midterms in November, according to shocking new poll results from Fox News.

The Fox News poll shows Democrat Senate candidate James Talarico beating Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton by three points. While the three points are within the margin of error, they fit alongside a bunch of other data that looks horrible for Republicans.

For instance, the majority of independent voters (68 percent) back Talarico, as do the majority of Democrats (98 percent). Yet only 89 percent of Republicans back Paxton.

But it gets worse.

“Talarico’s advantage in the race grows to 6 points among both extremely motivated and extremely interested voters (53% vs. 47% in each group),” according to Fox News.

In addition, nearly one quarter of so-called “non-MAGA” Republicans, who are basically anti-Trump Republicans, back Talarico.

And even though the black community has aired some concerns about Talarico, 87 percent of surveyed blacks in Texas said they’d vote for him over Paxton. Hispanics also appeared to favor Talarico over his GOP opponent.
