Iran and Pakistan have exchanged intermittent border strikes in Balochistan in the past few years, but they've been limited.

Iran and Pakistan are pragmatic geo-political frienemnies dealing with Baloch nationalists.

The Taliban (a creature of Pakistani Intelligence) has carried out attacks against civilian Shi'a targets in Pakistan.

Attacking Pakistan doesn't do anything to stop the flow of oil out of the Persian Gulf.  If anything, that could agitate a potentially hostile neighbor on its southeastern border that could open a 2nd front against Iran.
Still, it is revealing that Pakistan has not been targeted.

Pakistan has limited oil and gas resources, so it might not be about the flow of oil out of the gulf as much as the access to Iranian oil.  And from what I can gather, India is definitely not a friend of either Iran or Pakistan.

The 'enemy of my enemy is my friend' syndrome could not be put into play, could it?

Why is he over in the Middle East anyways?  He is not an elected official.

That's what really irks me about those two.  They are not elected officials.  They have not been appointed and confirmed into any lawful government office, department, or agency, nor do they have any credentials as official diplomatic representatives of the U.S. government, nor are they accountable to anybody except perhaps Trump.  They're just two "cowboys" traveling the world doing Trump's bidding but not necessarily the U.S.'s bidding.

Within Iran, ethnic Baloch and Azeri minorities are good candidates for covert ops training armed resistance within Iran.

Any attempts to arm Kurds would meet resistance from Turkey.

India buys most of its oil from Russia, and its Government is essentially a Hindu Nationalist Theocracy.  It would be in their own interest to stay away from MidEast military involvement.

The United States became a target for Osama bin Laden when US troops were permanently stationed on Saudi (Islamic) territory.  India is the second most populous Muslim nation after Indonesia.  The last thing they want is an internal Islamic Holy War.  They have enough trouble with Pakistani-backed terrorists (behind Hotel Mumbia attack).

Because of ethnicity, language, and religion, Iran is pretty isolated within the Middle East itself.  That's why it has to reach out to Russia, China, and North Korea for assistance.

It is only by the gifts/curses of geography and history that the Iranian regime exerts as much control over the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf as it does.

It also doesn't help that oil rich Arab nations don't want get their own hands dirty in defending their interests.  They use America as their mercenary defense force.

If it wasn't for Israel, I don't know how much strategic interest America really has in the MidEast and the Persian Gulf after the fall of the Soviet Union.  We don't need their oil as much as we used to.  It's mostly Europe and Asia that uses Mideast Oil.

Of course, any global oil shock effects the United States economically, but America needs to continue development of its own energy resources, energy infrastructure, and energy technology to lessen the effect of Global oil price shocks.

Obama-Biden's bad energy policies played right into the hands of America's enemies, including OPEC, and competitors, like India.

Petro-politics is still very much a thing as it has been since 1973.

American energy independence is essential for national and economic security.

Most of us have been considering that Iran is fighting without allies in other countries, with the exception of Houthis in Yemen and Hezbollah in Lebanon, and of course the behind-the-scenes support by Russia and China.

Makes me think of looking at which of its nearby neighbors it has NOT launched missiles and drones toward.

Anybody seen a map lately of those targeted by Iran?

The one that worries me is Pakistan as their nuclear capability should always be forefront in our minds should they somehow align with the mullahs.

The Mullahs are Shia. The Paks are Sunni. Two different Islamic sects, best known for killing each other at any given opportunity.

The Paks would more likely nuke Iran than any Gulf state. I believe the Paks and Saudis have a mutual defense treaty, but I could be wrong.

So Iran has not launched to Pakistan?

Give it time ... but the Paks will launch on them with vengeance ... nuclear vengeance and the Mullahs know it.

Thanks for insight.

I'll add that US interest in the ME is not so much that we need their oil, but China does.

Our priority in ME is to not permit China to have unfettered access to or control of that oil.

The world cannot easily do without ME oil for this and at least another decade or two.

Iran Has Laid Small Number of Naval Mines Into Strait of Hormuz, Challenging Peace Talks: Report

Iran has laid a small number of sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz, an anonymously-sourced report claims.

An alleged U.S. intelligence assessment says there are around one dozen Iranian mines in the Strait of Hormuz, CBS News has claimed. If true, the sea mine allegation would weigh on the apparently developing peace talks between Washington and Tehran, given the United States’ demands that the Strait of Hormuz be opened for global oil traffic.

The report, which relies purely on the assertions of unnamed “U.S. officials”, states one of these officials told the broadcaster “there are at least a dozen underwater mines”, while a second said there were fewer than a dozen.

All it takes is one.  I thought I had read that there was an intent to deploy troops to the three islands surrounding Kharg.

So, as speculated, is the 5 day wait that Trump has offered Iran indeed giving the U.S. time fortify its position in the area?

Who actually runs Iran right now? The key power players as Trump claims talks to 'top' official
Analysts say the IRGC has more control over Iran than ever, even as the state itself is described as weaker than ever before
By Efrat Lachter Fox News
Published March 24, 2026 3:08pm EDT

"Nobody knows who to talk to," President Donald Trump said Tuesday at the White House, describing what he portrayed as both chaos and opportunity inside Iran’s leadership. "But we're actually talking to the right people, and they want to make a deal so badly."

His remarks come as the U.S. claims it is engaged in talks with a "top" Iranian figure, even as Tehran publicly denies negotiations are taking place.

The question now is not just whether talks are happening, but whether anyone in Tehran has the authority to deliver. With U.S.-Israel strikes on senior Iranian leadership and growing internal fractures, Iran appears to be operating less like a centralized theocracy and more like a wartime system run by overlapping power centers, with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) at its core.

Here’s who matters now.

The IRGC: The real power behind the state

Across intelligence assessments and recent reporting, one conclusion is consistent: the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has emerged as the dominant force in Iran’s political system.

Behnam Ben Taleblu, senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies Washington, D.C., think tank, said the current moment is accelerating a long-standing trend.

"No doubt both the 12-Day war and this current conflict have trimmed the commanding heights of the Islamic Republic's political and military leadership," he said.  "But it has also expedited the trend lines inherent in Iranian politics, which is the dominance of the security forces and the ascendance of the IRGC."

"Yes, there is more IRGC control over the state than ever before, but the state is weaker than ever before and more of a national security rump state than ever before," he said.

"It shouldn't particularly preoccupy Washington, who is and isn't offering negotiations," Ben Taleblu added. "The preeminent preoccupation of Washington has to be working toward a military win at a political win, and that does not come by working with the IRGC, but actually beating them on the battlefield and supporting the forces most arrayed against them in Iran, which are the Iranian people."

Meanwhile, FB is being flooded with claims that Iran has seriously damaged the Ford, Lincoln, and G. H. W. Bush. The latter would be pretty amazing, since, last I heard, the Bush is in Norfolk, VA, prepping for deployment. There are also pictures of an A-10, a B-2, an F-22, and an F-35 Iran claims to have shot down, with men the same height as the planes waving Kalashnikovs. I've also seen a picture of a supposed US aircraft carrier that has a ski-jump bow and a video of a torpedo flying throught the air to hit the Iranian frigate Dena several feet above the waterline. The volume of Iranian absurdities is pretty amazing.

A shakedown during combat is a tough way to prove a carrier.

Not being able to operate under enemy attack makes it pretty much worthless in a war.  Makes me wonder if the laundry room fire story was the truth, or if an Iranian drone or missile actually got through and hit it?

So the Iranians sent Trump a bribe?  Was it a painting like that one given to him by Putin?

Flashback:

Putin’s gift of a Trump portrait plays to the vanity of a president

Makes me wonder also if Dmitriev is now advising the Iranians on how to flatter Trump?

Ceasefire with Iran?  On what planet?  Any 'deal' or 'agreement' signed or agreed to by Iran will not be honored by them.  Certainly Trump is smarter than that.
Live in  harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.

Whatever it was, they know they're dealing with a guy who is not afraid to go to the mattresses.

None of those terms will do diddly squat for the average Iranian, who collectively would be sold out by Trump to the same sorts of monsters who currently govern.

Trump says Vance and Rubio are ‘involved’ in negotiations with Iran

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/white-house/4501966/trump-says-vance-and-rubio-involved-with-iran-talks/

Quote
President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are involved in ongoing peace talks with Iran.

The president had originally tapped special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, to lead talks with Tehran. However, Iranian officials refused to negotiate with Witkoff and Kushner, according to the Guardian.

“We’re in negotiations right now. They’re doing it, along with Marco and JD; we have a number of people doing it,” the president told reporters in the Oval Office. “The other side, I can tell you, they’d like to make a deal. And who wouldn’t if you were them?”

JD Vance role touted as Pakistan attempts to broker US-Iran peace talks

Quote
Pakistan’s prime minister, Shehbaz Sharif, says his country is ready to “facilitate meaningful and conclusive talks” to end the war in the Middle East amid attempts to push Islamabad as a possible venue for negotiations between the US and Iran.

Pakistani sources said the US vice-president, JD Vance, was being put forward as a probable chief negotiator from the US side if talks went ahead. Iranian sources have said they would refuse to sit down with Trump’s Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, or Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, who led the nuclear negotiations with Iran before the war.

Officials in Pakistan said the US and Iran could meet for negotiations in Islamabad as early as this week to discuss an end to the war, which began almost a month ago.

Sources said Iran’s parliamentary speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, was the most likely to lead any talks from the Iranian side. However, Ghalibaf has so far dismissed reports of talks between the two sides as “fake news”.

Pakistan’s military leadership has been attempting to take a leading role in brokering any peace talks. The White House confirmed that Pakistan’s army chief, Asim Munir, had a call with Donald Trump on Sunday to discuss the conflict.

Sharif then spoke to the Iranian president, Masoud Pezeshkian, on Monday, where they “agreed on the urgent need for de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy”, according to an official read-out.

More accurately, dumbing down the sounder. With every senior leader killed knowledge and experience is lost. Same as Israel did with Hamas, Same as Israel has done (Beep! Beep! BOOM!) and is doing with Hezbollah.

I'm not sure what the use of "sounder " in your post is. In my neck of the woods it's a herd of wild hogs. Given whose death you are referencing not only was it appropriate and insulting to the deceased...it gave me a *chuckle*.

I truly don't know what to make of this .... yet ..... time will tell.  I do know and I am quite confident that Iran cannot and should not be trusted.

Trump touts ‘significant’ Iran ‘present’ linked to Strait of Hormuz as deal talks heat up

President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced Iran wants to "make a deal" with the U.S., noting the country's leadership gave the U.S. a "significant prize" related to the Strait of Hormuz and the flow of oil.

While speaking to reporters in the White House Oval Office, Trump said Iranian leadership sent the gift on Monday, and it arrived on Tuesday.

"They're going to make a deal. They did something [Monday] that was amazing, actually. They gave us a present," Trump said. "The present arrived today, and it was a very big present worth a tremendous amount of money."............

Trump said he could not disclose what the gift was, but said it was "oil and gas-related" and was connected to the Strait of Hormuz.

The Iranian regime was previously charging some tankers millions of dollars to pass through the global shipping choke point, according to a report from Iran International.............
