The worst thing according to them, though, is hearing that the US and Israel might start negotiating with the regime and stop the bombing. They say that if the regime survives, it’ll get even worse - like North Korea times ten. They ended the call with a sob in their throat: “Please, don’t stop bombing them, we can’t live under them anymore. Please.” And hearing my loved ones beg like this is the worst thing I’ve ever experienced in my life. 🥺

Wow!!      The innocents continue to suffer.  IIRC Trump said he was going to help them.  Bombing is one thing, but helping these people overthrow the evilness that threatens their existence is another.   The only way I see helping these people are boots on the ground and that would likely mean an endless war. I don't think that is the intent of Trump and it is a very complex and difficult position to be in.  Prayers.

Kind of lost in the shuffle is this strange differential in WTI (West Texas Intermediate) and Brent crude prices.  Historically Brent has very consistently been $2-3/bbl higher.  And as a cost benchmark of East vs. Western Hemisphere....   We in the United States are reaping a huge benefit in that differential which now has been lately about $10/bbl. 

Think about it, energy is the fulcrum of the economy.  What Biden did on his first day in office is/was proof positive of that.  Now realize that we as an industrial nation are able to fuel our economy with 10% less costs?

Iran has named a former Iranian Revolutionary Guard commander as the new secretary of the country’s Supreme National Security Council this week.

The new official, Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, reached the rank of brigadier general in the IRGC before serving as the secretary of Iran's Expediency Council.

The previous security secretary, Ali Larijani, was killed in an airstrike last week.

President Donald Trump has touted the speed with which the U.S. and Israel eliminated Iran's top leadership at the outset of the conflict.

He gloated to a crowd in Memphis, Tennessee, on Tuesday that Iran's top leaders have been eliminated many times over in the weeks since the conflict began.

Most of us have been considering that Iran is fighting without allies in other countries, with the exception of Houthis in Yemen and Hezbollah in Lebanon, and of course the behind-the-scenes support by Russia and China.

Makes me think of looking at which of its nearby neighbors it has NOT launched missiles and drones toward.

The one that worries me is Pakistan as their nuclear capability should always be forefront in our minds should they somehow align with the mullahs.

The Iranians and the Pakistanis have traded border skirmishes in their shared Balochistan region.

More likely, Iranians would use espionage and corruption to obtain any nuclear technology from Pakistan.  North Korea is more likely to sell it to them.  The Chi-coms will sell them the ballistic missile technology.

In the past 20 years, a Pakistani nuclear official was discovered to have transferred Pakistani nuclear technology to North Korea.

Corruption is the most likely vector for obtaining nuclear technology from Pakistan.

Not selfish at all...My husband did two tours, almost 3 years in Iraq...my youngest son did a tour in Basra, a joint British/US prison..an MP unit...thankfully they are both retired from the Army now so I understand.

Recovering the Lost Art of Diplomacy

Diplomacy is an instrument of strategy that great powers use to survive and gain an advantage in competition with other powerful states. Excellence in diplomacy is a vital prerequisite to the success and endurance of great powers. Diplomatic skills atrophied in the United States after the end of the Cold War, as we came to rely on military technology and economic sanctions as the main tools of our foreign policy. But now we are entering a dangerous age in which great powers are competing for the things they have competed over from the beginning of time: territory, resources, influence, and prestige. In this setting, the United States will need to recover the lost art of diplomacy.

First, let me clarify that by diplomacy, I don’t mean John Kerry landing in Davos, Switzerland to give a lecture to the world’s political and business leaders about climate change. I mean the use of negotiations to reconcile conflicting interests on matters of war and peace. Diplomacy is an art and is best defined by its outcomes rather than by its processes. The most consequential outcome by far is the constraint of the power of one’s adversaries—in other words, setting limits to the hostile accumulation of power. Powerful states are naturally constrained by all kinds of things, such as geography, fearful neighbors, and limitations of military technology. Diplomacy works to maximize these constraints in order to restrict an aggressive opponent’s options for conquest. Of all forms of diplomacy between great powers, the most important concerns itself with limiting, avoiding, or preparing for war.

I should also define what I mean by strategy: it is the matching of national means, in the form of military and economic resources, to national ends, in the form of foreign threats and opportunities. Danger arises when gaps emerge between the means at a nation’s disposal and the ends to which those means must be applied. Diplomacy is critical when a state faces enemies too numerous or powerful to be deterred or defeated by military means alone. Diplomacy’s role in strategy is to increase the external means at the nation’s disposal by building coalitions and to reduce the threats arrayed against it through détente. Effective diplomacy permits states to avoid tests of strength that are beyond their ability to bear.

I repeatedly stated during Trump's first presidency that Kushner could not be trusted (nor can his father, Charles). I continue to stand by that statement; he cannot be trusted.  After all he and his brother Joshua got their start up money for Thrive Capital from George Soros and later formed Kushner Companies which is a real estate development company. His company Affinity Partners secured investments from the Saudis.   

Why is he over in the Middle East anyways?  He is not an elected official.

Iran and Pakistan have exchanged intermittent border strikes in Balochistan in the past few years, but they've been limited.

Iran and Pakistan are pragmatic geo-political frienemnies dealing with Baloch nationalists.

The Taliban (a creature of Pakistani Intelligence) has carried out attacks against civilian Shi'a targets in Pakistan.

Attacking Pakistan doesn't do anything to stop the flow of oil out of the Persian Gulf.  If anything, that could agitate a potentially hostile neighbor on its southeastern border that could open a 2nd front against Iran.
