GARNER, N.C. (WNCN) — Authorities swarmed a church in Garner Friday morning after a “hazardous device” was found outside and later destroyed by Raleigh police, officials said.
The incident was reported just after 7 a.m. Friday, when officers discovered a “suspicious device” in the parking lot of The Capital Church at 1308 U.S. 70 in Garner, according to a town of Garner news release.
Officers evacuated the “immediate area,” and nearby roads were temporarily closed
“The object was determined to be a hazardous device and was safely destroyed with the assistance of the Raleigh Police Department Hazardous Device Unit,” the news release said.
Authorities later said there was “no fragmentation” included in the device.
