Across world, countries are lining up to support US decapitation of Iran's mil/pol ldrs and destruction of their nuclear and missile programs.  Iran's allies China and Russia are silent. Now it's up to Iranian people to change their regime and govern themselves.

When I talked to Secretary Rubio, I implored him to be straight with Congress and the American people about the objectives of these strikes and what comes next. Iran must never be allowed to attain a nuclear weapon but the American people do not want another endless and costly war in the Middle East when there are so many problems at home.

The administration has not provided Congress and the American people with critical details about the scope and immediacy of the threat. Confronting Iran’s malign regional activities, nuclear ambitions, and harsh oppression of the Iranian people demands American strength, resolve, regional coordination, and strategic clarity. Unfortunately, President Trump’s fitful cycles of lashing out and risking wider conflict are not a viable strategy.

The administration must brief Congress, including an immediate all senators classified briefing and in public testimony, to answer these vital questions. The Senate should quickly return to session and reassert its constitutional duty by passing our resolution to enforce the War Powers Act.

My prayers are with our brave American servicemembers.

I was in Pentagon in '83 when Iran proxies blew up US Marine barracks in Beirut. Iran has grown stronger and more belligerent over the years. It's now on threshold of nuclear weapons and the missiles to deliver them anywhere in the world.  World's most dangerous country cannot be allowed to have world's most lethal weapons. It's now or never. But it's not without risk.

For the first time, Iran attacked all US military bases in the Persian Gulf region at once in response to American and Israeli airstrikes on its nuclear and government facilities. This was reported by the Bbloomberg agency with reference to Iranian state media.

"The state-run Iranian Nour News agency, close to Iran's security forces, reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps used heavy missiles to simultaneously hit several bases, including the Al-Udeid airbase in Qatar, the Ali Al-Salem airbase in Kuwait, the Al-Dhafra airbase in The United Arab Emirates, as well as the base of the US 5th Fleet in Bahrain," the agency reports.
Bahrain reported that the service center of the US 5th Fleet was the target of a missile attack. CNN, meanwhile, reports that Qatar intercepted two more missiles in its airspace.

It is noted that this is the first time that Tehran has carried out attacks on all US facilities in the region at once, which it has avoided before, usually resorting to so-called limited retaliatory strikes during periods of tension. In particular, in June last year, Iran attacked the Al-Udeid airbase in Qatar in response to strikes by Israel and the United States.

From what I've seen here and there:

* Iran's leadership was one of the first targets. If intel claims are accurate, a meeting of several top leaders was hit, and Ayatollah 2.0 may be meeting his 72 Helen Thomases.

* Iranian communications were hit by explosives and with cyber-attacks.

* Among the targets was Iranian naval bases on the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman. Tanker pirates down!

* At this point, the attacks have been by the US and Israel.

* I have not yet seen particulars about what assets were used, except videos of Tomahawk missile overflights oner Iraq, which suggests they were launched by an SSN accompanying the USS Gerald R. Ford.

* Iran launched missiles against several countries in the region, some that have US bases, and some not. A US naval base was hit in Bahrain, and several countries' anti-missile defenses successfully shot down the Iranian missiles. The comparatively small (AFAIK at this point) number of retaliatory missiles suggests that quite a few Iranian missile bases got wiped out at the beginning of the attack.

I think this effort will be days or even weeks long, but I do not think Iran will be invaded.

I want the debate (although now it may be moot) because Trump campaigned on and promised he would be different, that he would end wars, not start them and not get us bogged down in nation building.

Now he's started a preemptive war for a regime change in the Middle East and I want to know why he's turned a promise into a lie.

Iran launched missile strikes into at least six countries in retaliation for the Saturday morning attack by the US and Israel.


Multiple countries across the Middle East reported Iranian bombardments, with the IRGC, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, saying that it had launched attacks on US bases.

Iran said it targeted at least four bases hosting US forces in the Middle East. Details about the scale and the impact of the strikes are still emerging, but multiple nations reported being able to intercept the attacks. Some have reported damage and at least one death from debris. At least one US base appears to have been hit.


Bahrain's state news agency said that the US Navy's 5th Fleet service center was the subject to a missile attack, without offering details or reporting any casualties. Iran also said it targeted the base. The agency also reported Bahrain's defense forces saying that its air-defense systems successfully intercepted multiple missiles from Iran.

The UN Security Council is set to hold an emergency session on Saturday after the US and Israel launched airstrikes on Iran, which has drawn widespread backlash.

The emergency session was requested by the permanent missions of France, Bahrain, China, Russia, and Colombia, according to a statement by the permanent mission of Russia to the UN.

The meeting is expected to take place on Saturday afternoon.

"The reckless actions by Washington and West Jerusalem against a sovereign UN member state constitute a direct violation of the fundamental principles and norms of international law," said the Russian mission, warning that "such perilous misadventures are intended to undermine peace, stability, and security throughout the Middle East region."

Russia will "demand that the United States and Israel immediately cease their illegal and escalatory actions and embark on a path toward a political and diplomatic settlement," added the statement.............

Leaving aside all the specifics of Venezuela and Iran, there is a distinct pattern here. President Trump has decided he is going to fix as many of these problems as possible instead of kicking the can down the road the way most, if not all, of his predecessors and Western leaders generally have. So looking ahead, the chances that the Cuban regime is still around on January 20, 2029 are close to zero.
