We've been seeing the fraud in Minnesota lately where fake companies are scheming their way into millions of dollars from the Federal government. We will likely see much more of this kind of outright theft in many other states...both blue and red.
But what about the old fashioned 'soft fraud' that can be found in a myriad of government contracts?
A friend of mine tells me about a California state agency that has 800-ish employees and is spending seven to ten million per year on a thing called
Service Now which they use for tracking their work.
That's $8,750 to $12,500 per person, per year to do something I do with free software.
I don't know what Service Now does that's so extraordinary. But multiply this spending by the over 220,000 to 250,000 state employees in California and that works out to two to three BILLION dollars per year per state employee!
In a state that's going broke!
Aside from the fraud that's been hiding it is this kind of fraud that's to be found in overpriced government contracts that should not be overlooked.
