RealClear Politics recently posted an article titled “Was Climate Change the Greatest Financial Scam in History?” in which Stephen Moore argues that the trillions of dollars spent on climate action have had no effect in stopping climate change but has slowed development and poverty reduction. Moore is right. Not only has the spending resulted in no change in the rate of warming or reductions in the increase of atmospheric carbon dioxide, but the money was spent in a way that made life worse for people around the globe.

Moore references the climate spending estimate recently calculated by Bjorn Lomborg, which comes out to at least $16 trillion over the past 30 years.

“And for what?” asks Moore, “not a single life has been or will be saved by this shameful and colossal misallocation of human resources.

“The war on safe and abundant fossil fuels has cost countless lives in poor countries and made those countries poorer by blocking affordable energy,” Moore continued.

This is absolutely true.

Well, some of us have been saying this since they were running around buying up Carbon Credits from farmers to sell in the Midwest Carbon Exchange. AlGore, Soros, and others stood to make trillions, but the legislation that would have required Carbon Credits thankfully never passed.

It was also a poltical and economic fraud that weakened America's global position to the advantage of China and India.

Although there were freight train loads of money scammed from the global warming/climate change hoax, the primary objective always was -- and remains -- a vector through which to gain total control over populations.

And... it has ALWAYS been communist-driven.

20 years ago in your film, “An Inconvenient Truth,” you predicted that:
- The Arctic Ocean would be “ice-free” by 2013. That didn't happen.
- There'd be no more snow on Mount Kilimanjaro by 2016. That didn't happen.
- Polar bears would be dying out. That's not happening; in fact, most populations are relatively stable.
- Lake Chad would dry up due to global warming. It is drying, but decreasing water levels are mostly due to growing population and increased drawdown.
- The melting of the Greenland and West Antarctic ice sheets would cause sea levels to rise by 20 feet in the “near future.” That didn't happen, it definitely won't happen anytime soon, and is pure exaggeration.
I could go on and on. . .   The only thing you got right was that it has continued to get [marginally] warmer since your movie came out, and that the atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO₂) level has risen to over 400 parts per million (ppm).
Almost everything else is pure exaggeration, if not an outright lie.

It would be less bad were it merely a massive financial scam.  Climate alarmism has always been about creating an excuse for the state or supra-national institutions like the EU and UN to seize control of the energy economy, thereby increasing their power.  With that come financial scams, since non-market forces being in control of a sector of the economy creates the opportunity for making ill-gotten profits for those who can gain the favor of whoever is in control, but that's a secondary effect.
