AbbVie is a large pharmaceuticals company. It sounds like his wife is a regional sales rep for cosmetic surgery practices. She's probably the one making big $$$$.
Cavalho came to the US from Portugal in the early-mid 1980s, so he may have benefited from the late 1980s amnesty program. He may even be a naturalized citizen. Given his decades of work in FL public schools, I doubt his immigration status is still illegally present.
IF he has done something seriously illegal, he could be de-naturalized and deported. That's hypothetical, at this point, but I think the Trump Administration has the actual courage to do that.
Carvalho attended colleges in FL and got a degree in Biology. He worked his way up from teacher in a Miami high school to Superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools (~13 1/2 years as Superintendent). IOW, Carvalho has decades-long ties to that area of FL, possibly from when he came to the US.
