Ok...I'm probably going to say something right now about the SOTU last night that will piss some folks off...but here goes.

Last night was NOT...I repeat NOT...the venue or the time to present the valor awards to those military members.


Those ceremonies need to be done away from the spectacle that is the SOTU Address.  They need to be done with their fellow Soldiers...Sailors etc the guys they were in the mud with when that award was earned.

Doing it last night made it less about them and their accomplishments and more about Trump.  Especially with awards like the Medal of Honor and a Legion of Merit.

Something like that needs to have the spotlight shone completely on it and it alone...not as a side show to whatever else is going on.


I have no doubt that CW 5 Eric Slover performed at a level of bravery deserving of the MoH...but we're less than 6 weeks after the Maduro raid and he's got his Medal while there are former members of the military from Korea...Vietnam...other combat engagements still waiting for the review process to finish on their own MoH packets.


CW5 Slover shouldn't have been at the front of the line over the others.  I have no doubt that Trump or someone on his staff had that award fast tracked so it would be ready in time for last night.  That's not right.


Granted Captain Williams has waited a long...LONG time for his MoH...but again...his above all deserves its own ceremony where he and his accomplishments are the sole focus of the spotlight instead of an applause line for the President.


And spare me the whataboutism that's gonna come from some corners over what I said.  Yes I know "other presidents have done the same thing"...FDR had Jimmy Doolittle's MoH and a promotion from Lieutenant Colonel to Brigadier General for his Tokyo raid.  That was purely political too.


But should CW5 Plover have had his MoH moved faster than say someone like SFC Alwyn Cashe? It took 20 years and a lot of people campaigning on his behalf to get it done.  And when you read what he did...you'll ask yourself why it took so long.

I hope the DoW has events lined up here soon that allow those brave military members to have the individual ceremonies they deserve for what they did. 

They're owed that.


They deserved a better audience than what they got for what they did to get those medals.

DHS Blasts Democrats For Bringing Illegal Aliens to Trump’s SOTU Address

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on Tuesday called out Democrat members of Congress for inviting noncitizens and an anti-ICE agitator to attend President Donald Trump’s 2026 State of the Union address, accusing them of putting illegal aliens above the safety of American citizens.

Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) is reportedly bringing Marcelo Gomes-da Silva, an 18-year-old man detained by ICE for an expired student visa,  arguing his case highlights flaws in the immigration system.

ICE officers arrested Gomes-da Silva during an immigration enforcement operation in Milford, Massachusetts, targeting his father, Joao Paulo Gomes-Pereira, also an illegal alien and allegedly a known safety threat.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, local authorities had notified ICE that Gomes-Pereira had “a habit of reckless driving at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour through residential areas endangering Massachusetts residents.”

U.S. Rep. Al Green was booted from President Donald Trump's State of the Union address Tuesday night after waving a sign reading, "Black People Aren't Apes!" as the president made his entrance down the aisle.
 
The Houston Democrat stood near the front of the chamber holding the sign above his head as Trump greeted lawmakers and shook hands. Gasps and boos quickly spread across the room as members on both sides reacted to the sudden disruption.
 
Fellow Texan Troy Nehls appeared to exchange heated words with Green before throwing his hands up and returning to his seat. Within moments, the sergeant-at-arms moved in.

Democrats did everything they could to disrupt and marginalize the SOTHU speech and I'm sure their comments today will be a sight to behold.  Thar's why I didn't believe they would actually boycott the speech.  They needed the opportunity to make total asses of themselves, to act like whiny spoiled brats in front of the American people.  Why, I don't know since they couldn't even fake support for Americans.  Well, they succeeded in making enemies of America asses of themselves.

President Donald Trump turned a routine State of the Union into a viral political moment Tuesday night and even CBS host, Major Garrett admitted the optics left Democrats looking “off the rails.”

Immigration and border security were front and center throughout the address, with Trump repeatedly touting what he described as historic gains at the southern border. The word “border” was one of the most frequently used terms in the speech, as the president leaned into what has become a defining issue of his administration.

But the moment that cut through the partisan noise came when Trump issued a direct challenge to lawmakers in the chamber.

“One of the great things about the State of the Union is how it gives Americans the chance to see clearly what their representatives really believe,” Trump said. “So tonight, I’m inviting every legislator to join with my administration in reaffirming a fundamental principle: if you agree with this statement, then stand up and show your support: The first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens.”

Republicans rose to their feet in unison.

Poll Reveals America’s Reaction To Trump’s SOTU Address

President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address drew strong support from viewers Tuesday night, according to a CNN poll conducted by SSRS, reinforcing that his message on border security and economic reform continues to resonate with his base.

Nearly two-thirds of those who watched said they had at least a somewhat positive reaction to the speech, with 38% describing their response as very positive. While media outlets were quick to note the audience skewed Republican, that has long been the case for State of the Union viewers, who typically tune in because they are engaged and invested.

More importantly, Trump appears to have strengthened confidence among those watching.

Before the speech, 54% of viewers said they believed his policies would move the country in the right direction. Afterward, that number jumped to 64%. The share who said Trump has the right priorities rose from 44% before the address to 54% immediately following it.

That shift suggests the president’s case for aggressive border enforcement, tougher trade policy and a reset on economic priorities landed with voters who are looking for direction after years of inflation and instability.

On immigration, one of Trump’s signature issues, 62% of viewers said his policies would move the country in the right direction. The same percentage said the same about his economic agenda.

Even critics acknowledged that immigration remains an area of strength for the president. While some viewers who were dissatisfied with the speech said he focused too much on the issue, far fewer said he focused too little,  an indication that Trump is leaning into a message that energizes supporters and contrasts sharply with Democratic policies.

The economy, particularly the cost of living, remains a central concern. Ahead of the speech, a majority of viewers said they wanted to hear Trump address inflation and affordability. Afterward, 53% said he gave the issue the right amount of focus, though 45% wanted more emphasis.

"Walked out of the State of the Union because I couldn’t sit through hours of Trump’s lies," the senator wrote in a post on X. "Americans know the truth: he’s spiking prices and wrecking our economy. We’re a better country than this."

Warner posted about 17 minutes before the end of the president's remarks. Trump concluded his State of the Union speech at approximately 10:59 p.m., breaking the record for the longest State of the Union address in recent history.
