Most who hate asparagus had a mother who overcooked them, or were served canned asparagus (one of those things that should never have been invented).
Perhaps my tastes are horribly plebian, but out on the rig, I'd take a can of cheap asparagus (liquid and all) and a can of Cream of Mushroom soup, dump them in a saucepan, heat, stir, and dump fresh ground black pepper on it--that and a sandwich or two would be dinner.
I prefer much fresher, steamed, for a side dish for steak or such, though.
