Why do I need to know this?

I'm going to say something here, and please don't take this the wrong way. Why are we spending 90% of the news coverage on the Nancy Guthrie disappearance? What, everyone's a sleuth now? Is news coverage now doubling as entertainment in the form of a crime drama meant to entertain rather than inform? What other important news isn't being covered to make room for discussion after discussion, expert after expert, conjecture after conjecture? If your loved one went missing under the same circumstances, would the coverage be the same?

And because we always need to explain ourselves in today's world, please understand that I find that entire situation absolutely heartbreaking not to mention infuriating. No family should have to endure that, and no 84-year-old lady should be snatched from what should be her sanctuary of peace and safety. I pray for this situation numerous times a day. But I count on the news to give me the info I need in order to navigate this world. IMHO, there's already too much important news that doesn't get covered. Reviewing and discussing the facts of this incident is not helpful to me in my daily life.

Tell me where I'm wrong here.

I'm sure more than a few other women have gone missing in the past week, and I'm sure their family members also are distraught. But we're not going to hear about the black ones, we're not going to hear about the ones who don't have a famous daughter. Thus has it ever been.

This is gut wrenching for the Guthrie family, no doubt about it.  The developments deserve reporting, sure.   But, last night the evening Fox lineup (except Gutfeld) spoke of nothing else --- three hours of wall-to-wall coverage.  And, it's continuing today.

Why?

I'm so tired of being told what should be important to me.  I've turned it all off.

I can pray for a good outcome without listening to what's become nonsense speculation.

But, OTOH, most pissed off are Antifa and their Karen toadies in MN who are trying to exploit ICEpalooza.

They lost their hold on the news cycle.

Good to know that someone else weighed in with similar thoughts. With all the traffic on that thread, I was nervous about making this one. Not gonna lie. It's a bit shocking to me when these news stories seem to feed a need for entertainment rather than a need for info.

Good point. I like your silver lining approach. BTW, I've also taken issue with the way the ICE protests have been covered. Just think of all the times the news media refused to use the name of a shooter using the excuse that the perp doesn't deserve that kind of notoriety. If that's their position, why do they think the lawless protestors deserve such notoriety by providing them so much camera time? Aren't they feeding the very thing they were virtual signaling about? I say get a few clips here and there, but don't give them endless coverage. At the very least, they won't get to act out for the camera.

For the record, my criticisms are focused on FNC's coverage. I haven't monitored any other media sources. If they are covering the protestors responsibly, maybe FNC can learn something from them.

Haven't watched my regular news shows for a week just because there was no 'news'.
It was all 24/7 Guthrie coverage which I do not give a shit about. How many kidnappings happen every week?

Suddenly, Russia, Ukraine, Iran, China, Israel, and basic National News no longer mattered.
It was ALL Guthrie ALL the time. I watched Youtube international news instead.

When my niece and her friend were kidnapped, we had trouble even getting the LE’s attention at first!
I guess Orwell was right - some people are more equal than others.
That being said, this is a horrible situation and my heart hurts for the family.

What is really going on nationally or globally that they are desperately 'jamming' with meaningless nonsense?
It is all very strange. At least we have internet to bypass their smoke screen.

Now I understand what third world news is like. Fixate on some nothing trivial issue as if it is the most important thing ever, blocking out all other news.

Frankly, I think it's lazy (+cheap) reporting. I remember several months ago when we started getting stories of the Christians being slaughtered in Nigeria. It had been going on for some time, but it hadn't been covered in any news outlets I monitor. I was furious that it was such an unreported atrocity. It's not the only time the media have ignored important stories and chosen to report other stories ad nauseam.

I'm always thankful when I hear about news that's been flying under the radar, but I'm equally infuriated because it seems to live in obscurity for the most part. I hate [catastrophic] breaking news more than I can say. Break the story, give us what you know at this point, then move on with the news until you have some updates. I literally cringe when they cover every single second of a breaking story. Cringe and yell at my TV. There are certainly exceptions such as 9-11 and Katrina, but for the most part, breaking news is not an excuse for a marathon of commentaries, panel discussions, and generalized speculation.
