Look to Virginia to see what the Democrats could win in 2028

>Virginia defines trends in American politics, and it would behoove Republicans to consider this a warning.

Nella Smith | January 28, 2026

Virginia has long defined the trends in American politics. We’ve seen power oscillate between the parties, and most recently, Glenn Youngkin, a Republican, managed to win the governorship in 2021 (taking office in 2022) due in large part to investigative journalism done by the Daily Wire.

But in the 2025 elections, the Democrat nominees for governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general all beat out the Republicans, effectively securing the executive branch of the state. In addition to this, Democrats gained 13 house seats, making a Democrat majority of 64 in the state House—the largest in four decades.

And, already, they are attempting to enact far-left policy, seeking to ratify four new constitutional amendments—not pass new laws, but change the state constitution entirely—including mid-decade redistricting and codified abortion free-for-alls.

And one thing is for certain, if Democrats manage to win in 2028, what is happening in Virginia will happen at a national scale.

It’s not too early to discuss the 2028 election. We are living in a paradox of sorts, where campaigns span years, but the political winds change by the minute. And Virginia is the canary in the coal mine that we can’t afford to ignore.
