Ukraine intercepts nearly 90% of Russian aerial attacks - moving towards a 95% target
Ukraine's air defense shot down or suppressed 89.9% of Russian missiles and drones in March, according to new data released by the Ministry of Defense @DefenceU In total, 641 aerial threats failed to reach their targets over the month.
The increase reflects ongoing upgrades in air defense systems, including the integration of new tools and the scaling of proven solutions. The results bring Ukraine closer to a stated goal:
intercepting at least 95% of incoming missiles and drones.
Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov @FedorovMykhailo has previously described these changes as part of a broader shift toward systematic countermeasures against mass drone attacks, particularly Shahed-type UAVs. “When the sky is protected, the country functions,” he said. Russia continues to rely on large-scale aerial strikes to pressure Ukraine's energy system and cities.
Ukraine's response is increasingly layered:
- air defense systems
- electronic warfare
- interceptor drones
Together, they are reshaping the balance between offense and defense in the air domain.
Sustained interception at this level:
- reduces civilian and infrastructure damage
- stabilizes energy supply
- allows economic and military systems to function
Ukraine's air defense is not static. It is evolving into a high-efficiency, scalable shield - one that is now approaching the threshold where mass attacks lose their impact.
