Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes wildly suggested that residents can open fire on masked ICE agents if they feel their life is in danger under the state’s self-defense laws.

The Democrat, in a sit-down with 12 News anchor Brahm Resnik, warned that Arizona’s “Stand Your Ground” law, which allows citizens to use deadly force if they believe they’re in imminent danger, could become a “recipe for disaster” if protesters clash with immigration officers.

“It’s kind of a recipe for disaster because you have these masked federal officers with very little identification, sometimes no identification, wearing plain clothes and masks,” Mayes said in the Monday interview, calling ICE “very poorly trained.”

Does that apply to Hwy Patrol, Sheriffs and Police, or just ICE?

Mayes is just protecting his illegal Rat voters and the money flow to the Rat coffers.

There’s no other way to interpret what she said as anything other than telling people to shoot ICE agents if they’re wearing masks.

Kris Mayes in a total frickin' idiot. Yes, we have strong Stand You Ground laws, and we have a goodly number of guns, and Constitutional carry laws, too.  It doesn't follow that we are trigger-happy and shoot at anything that moves.

Another posturing commie justifying their stance based on some attempt to pass themselves off as having a superior morality, not legal position.

Only shooting Federal agents is essentially a secessionist, Confederate, insurrectionist stance under the law.

Of course I realize she's likely too stupid to realize what she's saying.

IF they identify themselves as ICE Agents, no.

Wear the ID on the vests--and while I realize that could mimicked to perform home invasions, consider if you shoot one fed, the rest will perforate you repeatedly.

AZ Sen. Majority Leader Demands State AG ‘Step Down in Disgrace’ Over Comments About Shooting ICE

In a letter dated January 23, 2026, Arizona Senate Majority Leader John Kavanaugh (R) demanded the state’s Attorney General Kris Mayes (D) “step down in disgrace” after her comments about the shooting of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers.

During a January 20, 2026, interview posted by 12 News NBC, Mayes discussed Arizona’s “Stand Your Ground” law, noting that it is one of the most expansive such laws in the country.

She said, “You have these masked, federal officers with very little identification — sometimes no identification — wearing plain clothes and masks and we have a ‘Stand Your Ground’ law that says if you reasonably believe your life is in danger and you’re in your house or in your car or on your property, that you can defend yourself with lethal force.”

Mayes added, “It’s a fact that we have a ‘Stand Your Ground’ law and, in other states, un-uniformed, masked people who can’t be identified as police officers.”

She went on to talk about the importance of having uniforms and adding, “Now, you’re not allowed to shoot peace officers, but… how do you know they are a peace officer?”

Mayes began the interview by claiming ICE “is very poorly trained” and made clear she does not consider them “real law enforcement.”

Majority Leader Kavanaugh released a letter in response to Mayes in which he said, in part, “Kris Mayes needs to immediately recant these statements… And given the severity of the danger she has created, she should step down in disgrace. Arizona deserves an Attorney General who defends law enforcement, upholds the rule of law, and understands the consequences of her words. Mayes has proven she is unfit for this office.”
