Spanberger’s repeal of EO 47 isn’t about compassion—it’s about dismantling enforcement. Ending 287(g) agreements means Virginia law enforcement can’t assist ICE in deporting criminal illegals, which directly undermines federal sovereignty. The Laken Riley Act, Section 2, mandates detention for those charged with burglary, theft, and assault. Without state cooperation, ICE’s ability to enforce this is kneecapped.

Virginia spent $1M+ housing detainees under prior partnerships—now that cost shifts to taxpayers as federal agents scramble. Sanctuary policies don’t make communities safer; they shield lawbreakers.

If localities won’t act, the burden falls on DHS to clean up the mess Spanberger created.

I predict that the pendulum in Virginia has finally swung far enough towards the left side, that it won't be swinging back to the right again. At least not for a good long time...

Congratulations Virginia

We have now have:

✅a Speaker of the House of Delegates who spent seven years in federal prison for drug dealing

✅a president Pro Tem of the state Senate who just accused the 2 Democrat US Senators of being "cuck chairs"

✅ an Attorney General, who wants to put two bullets in his opponents head and watch their children die in their mother‘s arms

and for the record, all are Democrats

Exactly right and that pendulum has swung enough towards the left in NY, MI, MN as well and isn't going to swing back for a very, very long time.

It is alarming that VA has gone from Youngkin to Spanberger.

You got that right.  If I had the funds, I would dig up the caskets of all my ancestors in Gordonsville and Richmond and have them buried elsewhere.

I've long wanted to go to Fredericksburg and spend a week visiting nearby Civil War sites. If they impose all these new taxes, it will be a much less attractive vacation idea. That, and Democrats in power inevitably mean less safe streets.

Virginia Democrats Pass Abortion Amendment that Will Go Before Voters in November

Katherine Hamilton 19 Jan 2026

Virginia Democrats passed a constitutional amendment on Friday that would codify within the state constitution the right to kill unborn babies in abortions.

The proposed abortion amendment will now go before voters in a statewide referendum in November. The Democrat-controlled state Senate also passed amendments to address same-sex marriage, restoring the voting rights of felons who have completed their sentences, and redistricting, WRIC reported.

In Virginia, constitutional amendments must be approved by both the state House and Senate twice before being placed on a ballot and ratified by a simple majority of voters. State lawmakers passed the first three amendments in January 2025 and passed in late October the redistricting amendment, which would temporarily authorize the legislature to amend state congressional maps if any other state legislature changes its maps between Jan. 1, 2025, and Oct. 31, 2030.

The abortion amendment, sponsored by Democrat state Sen. Jennifer Boysko and Democrat Del. Charniele Herring, would create a “fundamental right to reproductive freedom, including the ability to make and carry out decisions relating to one’s own prenatal care, childbirth, postpartum care, contraception, abortion care, miscarriage management, and fertility care.”

The amendment would allow some regulation of third-trimester abortions but would prohibit the state from banning abortions that a physician deems needed to protect the “life or physical or mental health of a pregnant individual” or if the physician deems the baby “not viable.”

“Republicans opposed the amendment unanimously. Some attempted amendments to preserve parental consent laws or ensure care for babies born alive, but these were rejected by extreme Democrats who want no limits on killing babies before birth,” LifeNews reported.

In Virginia, abortions are currently legal through 27 weeks of pregnancy.

Democrats in Virginia have introduced a bill that discriminates against White men in government contracting. For discretionary contracts under $100K, White men are barred from even being considered unless there’s literally no competition.

How did this happen?

Proposals that were considered radical, dangerous and even insane a mere handful of years ago are now rolled out as though they were "common sense" initiatives.

Well, for one thing: the Founders naturally assumed that the electorate would ever be composed of respectable, married, church-going male landowners, who could be counted upon (more often than not) to stay within the Constitution's framework, irrespective of their political differences.

They could not possibly have envisioned a populace dominated as it is in some precincts today by classes of government employees, welfare beneficiaries, professional agitators, homosexual men, and unmarried women whose extended families are composed of cats.

I would expect an exodus from the non-DC-ified, conservative portions of Virginia, should many of these proposals come to pass.

She's about as "moderate" as a heart attack. A classic AWFUL who fills the holes in her soul by seeking dominance over those who would preferably live perfectly well without her.

RE: Virginia

As we all watch Virginia descend into an evil maelstrom of Marxist pro-criminality, please allow me to explain what happened and what the remedy is.

Think back to 2024.  One of the major reasons the American people elected Donald Trump was so he would fulfill his campaign promise of reducing the size, scope and power of the evil Leviathan housed in the federal administrative state that controls our daily lives in a grotesquely unconstitutional manner.

This necessarily meant greatly reducing the number of federal civilian employees.

As someone who has spent many years in military uniform supervising civilian federal employees, I can assure you that  95% of those civil service employees completely and utterly disregard the fact that their boss is the American electorate.

So when the American electorate says “We think your job equals tyranny and we don’t want you employed in that job anymore,” instead of recognizing that the only people entitled to make this decision are the American voters, they resist, thinking that they are somehow more important than the Constitution and the electorate.

It just so happens that the great majority of these unrepentant federal workers reside in Northern Virginia.  So when Trump did what the American people wanted him to do and he fired so many of these unneeded leeches, those unionized leeches decided to vote Democrat at all costs, as a matter of preserving their wholly unnecessary jobs and cushy livelihoods.

Another key fact is that the suburban areas of Northern Virginia like Fairfax and Loudon Counties control state-wide elections, and federal workers control those counties.  So the inevitable happened and those unneeded, rent-seeking federal workers swung control of Virginia to Democrats.

And guess what?  Those elected Democrats took opposition to reducing the size of the federal government as a mandate to rapidly enact an Orwellian set of laws that would make Karl Marx and Che Guevara blush: outrageous taxation; elimination of basic human rights like those embodied in the Second Amendment; pro-illegal alien policies; refusal to enforce federal immigration laws; draconian rules mandating that confused children can destroy their genitals without parental consent; laws supporting criminality; and a host of other insane laws and policies designed to turn Virginia into a modern version of Ingsoc.

Who is to blame for this evil?  Federal workers.  Their refusal to acknowledge the will of their boss (i.e., YOU, the American voter) has tossed an entire state into Marxist despair.  The ability of federal civil "servants" to cling to their cushy, unneeded jobs is why Virginia has become an un-American hellscape overnight.  They simply DO NOT CARE that their fellow Americans are condemned to live in crime and tyranny, because that preserves their cushy sinecures.  They are not civil "servants."  They are civil MASTERS, and they don't care what you think.

Place the blame where it belongs.  Federal workers did this to you, Virginia.  THEY are to blame.

But there are two ways Trump can remedy this dire state of affairs:

1. Keep on cutting the bloated federal Leviathan.

2. Move federal agencies out of DC and spread them across the rest of the country, depriving this unionized cabal of unelected bureaucratic tyrants of the nefarious power of concentration.

I have a message for Virginia (less Fairfax and Loudon Counties): the rest of America is here to save you.  Hold fast, don’t give up, and we WILL eventually save you from this tyranny.

The author makes some good points.  In particular, I agree that federal agencies - particularly the rank and file - should be spread out so that each state bears a share, and so that the federal employees as a group cannot commandeer the elections of any locality.

I am not (yet) advocating for this position, but imagine what Virginia (and America)'s government would look like if Federal employees were not allowed to vote in state or national elections.

I know: that's terribly anti-democratic, but how's "democracy" working out for us, as opposed to representative, constitutional governance? Especially where government employees get their own unions (so that they may essentially "negotiate" with themselves over pay and benefits) and their own retirement plans (TSP and pensions)?

And, by essentially taking control of both Maryland and Virginia, the Federal workforce now has its own Congressional representation - which was the point of keeping D.C. as a separate entity in the first place, without its own Senators or congressmen to lobby on their behalf. D.C. doesn't need "statehood" anymore, because they've effectively achieved it

Spreading Federal workers around the country would aid in diluting their (currently) concentrated political influence, but perhaps a better solution overall would be to reduce the number of Federal agencies and its associated workforce, by Congress re-assuming its previously delegated functions and responsibilities. Yeah... good luck, and dream on. But worth thinking about.

I would prefer to not disenfranchise anyone, so for me that option simply isn’t there.  However, I definitely agree that reducing the size of the federal employee base is a good idea.  Also, to the extent there are functions that have to be done out of DC, there should be a requirement that federal employees live in the District, not surrounding states, even if that means putting Arlington back into the Distict and perhaps adding additional territory from Maryland, like along the I-270 corridor.

I suggested the "disenfranchisement" option as a thought experiment, not because I think it would be a good idea. I will admit that it still makes me smile.

I do however like the idea of adding Arlington (and perhaps Chevy Chase and Alexandria) to the Capitol district, on the basis that those towns are already composed of a majority of Federal employees.

It's not going to happen, politically speaking, but there remains the problem of Washington, D.C. having become everything which (at least a few of) our Founders feared it would in time become.
