A New ‘Bird Theory’ Is Going Viral, As People Find Evidence In Their Homes

A woman’s theory about birds has gone viral, as people looked around their own homes and found evidence.

TikTok user @corndogcalamari, who asked for her name not to be used, is 31 and Vietnamese American and lives in Brooklyn, New York.

On December 29, she sparked what has become one of the first major online trends of 2026, as she shared her “bird theory” about the decor in white people’s homes—and people are quickly learning there might just be something to it.
 
As she told Newsweek: “I realized there was always bird decor over at my white friends’ houses and even at the houses of people whom I’ve dated. It was particularly noticeable because they’d often be large metal sculptures, taxidermied birds, or just something that stood out!”

In the video, viewed more than 500,000 times, the poster told the camera: “There is a bird somewhere in a white person’s home. I’m not talking about a physical bird: I’m talking about sculptures, little figurines, paintings—just decor; bird decor.”

I guess that means anyone who has a bird in the decor is white no matter the color of their skin.  Or anyone who doesn't is a person of color.  I've thought I was white for 78 years and now I find I'm not.  This is so embarrassing, I'm going to change gender. twilight zonexxxx

The only bird decor I have in my house is the bird poop way up high on my 2-story stone fireplace where a bird got into the house and did a little bit of business before we could get him out again. One of these days I've got to find a ladder tall enough to get up there and clean it off. In the meantime, it does blend into the stone fairly well.

Nearly all "white" people also have a toilet in their house too...

Is there any evidence presented that other skin color people have fewer bird figurines in their homes to actually make a point???

No bird decor here.  Maybe its something about white folk who live in Brooklyn.  New Yorkers are among the most provincial people in the whole world and think whatever is true in New York, or even their own neighborhood of New York -- a lot of them who live in the outer boroughs are proud to be New Yorkers, but never go into Manhattan to take advantage of the great culture and restaurants available there -- is the norm.

Vietnamese chicken figurines

Photos of heron and osprey, 'working' wooden decoys from my youth (That I hunted over), decorative decoys, even a couple sculptures. I also have buffalo skulls Mrs Joe painted, and one i found. There are  fossil plants and a dinosaur bone, fossil snails, and a host of other fossil critters.

I wonder if she was mainly referring to eagles?

I looked around and I have a small duck decoy, a parrot wind chime, a picture of an owl and a ceramic goose that I bought in Mexico.

But I'm scratching my head about what that has to be with being white.  :shrug:

Next time I go to my Hispanic neighbors I'll look around.
