Trump to cut US ties to 66 environmental groups, foundational UN climate treaty
11h

The Trump administration has accelerated its withdrawal from climate change agreements on the global stage, severing ties this week with 66 international organizations focused on environmental and climate endeavors and agreements that Trump says "operate contrary to U.S. national interests" of focusing on oil, gas and mining development.

The agreements include the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change - the overarching global framework for climate action, encompassing the annual COP climate summits and the 2015 Paris climate agreement - and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change - the group considered the primary authority on climate change science.

The U.S. also will pull out of other U.N. bodies and non-governmental organizations including the International Renewable Energy Agency and the International Solar Alliance.

"Many international organizations now serve a globalist project rooted in the discredited fantasy of the 'End of History,' the White House said. "These organizations actively seek to constrain American sovereignty."
